Screaming Yellow “SN65″ Mustang
Today it is not uncommon to find a ‘65 Fastback with modular V8 power, but brothers Bob and Wayne Julian took their project “SN65″ to a whole new level. This beautiful Screaming Yellow fastback is not your average shoehorned V8 swap, but rather the merging of two unibodies. The Julian brothers began by painstakenly cutting the body off of a 2003 Cobra with just 13k on the ticker, this was followed by cutting the opposite portion from a perfectly healthy 1965 Fastback.
There were many major differences in the two unibodies, one being the Terminator’s wheelbase was 7inches shorter than that of the Fastback. Not wanting to the outcome to appear as that of a funny car the Julian brothers engineered a method to extend the Cobra’s wheelbase. Another hurdle was how to handle the width changes in the last 40 years of Ford engineering that led to the Mustang’s body wideing from 56 inches to nearly 61 inches. However the brothers had an answer for everything, so they facilitated fender flares and spent tedious hours re-engineering the entire suspension.

One objective was to provide all the high tech options and comforts of the late model Cobra into the Fastback. Many hours of tedious work was spent shorting the Terminator’s dash to blend and fit with the reupholstered ‘65 door panels. Recaro buckets and Corbeau harnesses keep the driver and passenger firmly planted. Another major task was engineering a way to utilize the ‘03 locks, and getting them to work with the ‘65 mechanics. Once agian the brothers wrote another page in history by devising an rather simple but innovative sliding-shaft mechanism, that provided the functionality to the locks. Of course any streetcar wouldn’t be complete without a high tech A/V system, this was accomplished with a Kenwood Execlon head unit, Hifonics amp, MB Quart door speakers, and a custom enclosed Infinity Kappa subwoofer in the trunk.

After nearly 24 months of blood, sweat and tears with enough innovative solutions to write a book, fruited a worldclass automobile. The first show outing for the “SN65″ was the 2006 Detroit Autorama, which shocases some of the finest auto creations in the world. Undoubtingly the Julian brothers won the “Outstanding Engineered Award”, which topped all the other handcrafted million-dallor show cars in the same class as Ridler contending customs. Don’t get this car confused with the other showcar trailer queens, the brothers are quick to point out that this car sees the Chicago streets as often as weather permits. Don’t be suprised to see this car in future events such as Hot Rod’s “Open Track Smackdown”.
