SeaBee & Suprajay79 Military Appreciation

MM Screen Name: Suprajay79

Name & Rank: Senior Airman Jay Mirabal

Years/Months in the Service: Five years, two months as of January in the U. S. Air Force.

MM:  What made you want to join the military?

Suprajay79:  I’ve always wanted to fly, and to fly in the military you have to have a degree.  I didn’t have money for school, so I joined active duty to earn the VA educational benefits and to get a taste for what the military is.  Last year, I joined the Air National Guard and started going to school full-time.  I’ll be commissioned and back in active duty in 2012.

MM:  What do you like most about it?

Suprajay79:  I like the pay and vacation; both are very good, and are more than competitive for the civilian sector.  The educational benefits are top-notch too, and this is the only employer who actually encourage me assembling bombs and missiles.

MM:  Biggest dislike?

Suprajay79:  Some people can be real assholes.  If you have a top-heavy command, micro-managing becomes the norm, and vice versa.  Finding the balance is rare.

MM:  Best Memory?

Suprajay79:  Coming home from Afghanistan.  It felt so good to be back on American soil, and have the ability to drink, sleep, and eat at any given time instead of on someone else’s schedule.  When I met my wife at the airport, it was the greatest feeling in the world and the sense of relief was overwhelming.

MM:  Can you tell us about one person in the service who has affected your life most?

Suprajay79:  I have a lot of friends that I’ve made since joining, but I wouldn’t be able to choose one over the other- Joe Cheek and Lewis Hudgings (Huggy Bear).  We were a tripod in Idaho, drinking, partying, and just having a blast.  We all ended up goin our separate ways, but we still keep in touch and we will all party again.  We’re all great friends.
