While Saleen, Roush, Shelby, Foose, Steeda and company have been building press releases and showing off their modded mustangs, Team Shinoda has been quietly building the Most Powerful Production Mustangs, as per their slogan. Power, Performance, Style. That’s their motto - fitting considering the companies history.
In 1969, the late Larry Shinoda, who also designed the Corvette Stingray and Z28 Camaro, introduced the original Boss 302 and Boss 429 Mustangs. These were the cars to beat, winning both NHRA drag racing events and SCCA Trans-Am championships. These cars won the hearts of racers and enthusiasts alike.
Fast foward to today, where James Klok and his crew build the current “Boss Shinoda” Mustangs. In light of the recent speculation about Ford building another Boss, Team Shinoda is currently building five versions of their own.
Boss Shinoda Mustangs for 2007
Legacy – Starts with a GT and adds the following: Boss Shinoda chin spoiler, Boss Shinoda rear wing, Boss Shinoda graphics (vibe or hockey stick style), BCS Spring kit, high flow axle back exhaust, Boss Shinoda 4 piece floormats, shaker hood, pedal covers, Hurst shifter with white ball, Shinoda fender emblems, and a Shinoda 5 spoke 18″ wheel and tire package.
Level 1 – Same as the Legacy, adds BCS level 1 suspension (springs, shocks, swaybars), JBA ceramic coated shorty headers, Diablo programmer, under drive pullies, and a twin 62mm throtle body.
Level 2 – Same as Level 1, adds BCS level 2 suspension (springs, shocks, swaybars, lower control arms), performance gauges, and a Vortech supercharger kit.
Level 3 – This is what dreams are made of. Adds all the stuff from the Level 2 kit with a BCS level 3 suspension, but instead of a vortech supercharger you get a forged engine assembly, twin turbo system by Turbo Horsepower, performance clutch, and 14″ Baer brakes (you’ll need them).
Stroker Edition – For those naturally aspirated enthusiasts looking for something alittle more nastalgic. You get all the stuff in the Level 3 kit with the exception of the twin turbo system. Add the Boss Shinoda rear window louvers and you’ve got the classic Boss style.
Regardless of which Boss Shinoda Mustang you prefer, one cannot deny these Mustangs are built by true enthusiasts for enthusiasts. From the Legend to the Stroker edition, Team Shinoda has a Mustang for all desired power levels. At press time, there were 63 registered owners of Boss Shinoda Mustangs.
For those wishing to convert your own Mustang into a Boss, Team Shinoda also offers upgrade packages for 1994-2006 Mustangs. For a full list of Shinoda dealers, parts information, and authorized installers visit the official Team Shinoda website.
