muffler location

I want to have a dual exhaust on my fox to make it look good but in order to have that my muffler shop said they needed to move the muffler near drivers seat and split it into 2 pipes, will moving the muffler decrease performance and will it make it sound louder, i know drone will increase and i dnt mind that ? Or shud i just have a y pipe into two seperate mufflers with their own tailpipes.. Basically i want to have the duals with a slightly louder sound than now without any negative effect on performance

Having the muffler further upstream will probably change the note a bit, making it a bit raspier. The volume, probably won't change much as the gasses will still exit at the same speed, as the restrictions are still the same. And yes, there will probably be some drone. But performance shouldn't be affected much, if at all, again because the velocity of the gas really won't change.
That's compared to stock, though.

With option 2, in theory it would be quieter than option 1, as you are introducing a second muffler. But that could also improve overall note of the sound depending on muffler type, and the rest of the system as a whole.
