351 swap in my fox...

I was currently building my 306. I have a chance to to get a smokin deal on a 351w short block he says its fully forged 10:5:1 compression but is not sure on the internals.. So tom going to go an pull the oil pan an look at it..

For my current build I have brand new trick flow upper (heads. 1.7 rocker arms, push rods, lower an upper track heat intake 30lb injectors, 76mm maf an fuel rails, all new gaskets.)

So heres my questions.. Will all my parts bolt on to the block? ( I think I will have to replace the push rods) I know I need a new distributor, mounts an headers, oil pan an oil pick up..

If any one has any knowledge or experience with this swap any info would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

You have to know what heads you are using before you can determine a compression ratio, meaning what cc combustion chamber puts that motor at that ratio? Couldn't tell what you have for heads, stock or TF?

I have TF 170cc/66cc.. Now will I have to change the bottom intake manifold. I have the TF track heat maniflod.. Thanks for the help

yeah youll have to change it. If youre gona 351 and want to stick with a tf intake get the tfsr

+1... and those heads are maxxed out for a revving 351, so if you ever stroke it, plan on a different set.

na theyll be fine. Tons of people making good power with 347s and ootb tf 170s, his wont be as fast as them but itll be alright. And why get another set when he can send them to tea for their 205 cnc program :D

FastStang91Lx December 17th, 2010 03:59 PM

That too...

I would call my 185 cnc's just right for a 347 or 351, but I too will have to send them out if I ever go bigger

Waste of money. heavier motor for roughly the same hp.

Not necesseeerrrarlilly....The 351w will out torque a 347 hands down. I know and love em. When I buy a fox, first thing I do is find a buyer for the 302, and in goes the windsor. The 9.5 inch deck height is hard to beat!

The trick flow top end will make a little more hp and more tq than a 302, but the 351 is heavier. If you want a 12.5 fox that traps 109 and tell people it has a 351 go for it. I'd rather put the kit on the 302 and do the same thing.

What exactly makes a 351 out torque a 347? The heavy ass rotating assembly?

Nah, it's the 4 extra cubes.

If you want a fox that traps 12.5 buy a 347. If you want a fox that will trap 10.5, lose the 170 heads, buy some 225's, and a stroker kit for the 351. Don't get me wrong, 347's are great.... if you like 12's. I in my honest opinion building an engine that would only do that is the waste of money....

Rotating mass=torque. Also, the longer rod of the windsor naturally gives more mechanical advantage to create torque. That's without even stroking it.

An aluminum headed windsor will probably weigh about 50lbs more, you'll more than make up for it in power. I've done it. So have thousands of others. It's no secret!

Fucking wasted my goddam money on a 347 shoulda pulled a 351 from an f250 and been faster. Fuckmylife

This will prove nothing unless you have a 351 and a 347 with the exact same top end on it and each had a custom cam and then you had the exact same weight/suspension/trans/exhaust ect. car. Argue all you want, all things equal the 347 will outrun the 351 all day long. Of course a stroked 351 will be faster, but stock stroke 351 won't. Do some research if you don't believe me.

93lxreef December 18th, 2010 10:54 PM

With all due respect....not trying to argue all things equal. Just saying that with a 347 you are limited by how much power you will ever make. Period. with the 351 you can stroke it and make waaaaayyy more horse power than the little 347. If you're ok with that, cool. If you want 600+ hp later, get the windsor....that's my plan. My car is a weekend toy, not a DD.

Honestly, if I were to build a daily driver, I'd probably go 347. But I'm gonna be the guy that shuts up the shit talkers and make more power. peace.

HMERacing December 18th, 2010 11:06 PM

I want a stroked 351W now! maybe a 427 :P
