Straight pipe for 5.0

This is a serious question, I have a friend who lives in a neighboring state and is legally blind. He own a 1994 SVT Cobra 5.0 with 5 Speed his significant other drives the car and his enjoyment is the ride and the sound. He want more volume and deeper pitch out of it so he has decided to take out the Cats and resonators replacing them with a straight pipe. He is planning on welding a fitting in the new pipe at the same location as on the old one where the O2 sensor are and place them there. He want to know if that will make the check engine light gods happy. Any ideas??
Thanks
Jack

Im about a month late here but nobody responded so, if nothing has been done with this yet, as long as the o2 sensors are hooked up, cat or no cat, it shouldnt be a problem. Unless the state requires all factory emissions components be present, and/or theres a sniffer for state inspection.

If this has been taken care of, how did it turn out?
