V-8 conversion on a 4 banger lx

I just bought an 86mustang with a 5 speed tranny, but it is a 4 banger. I want to swap for a v-8, but I need some advice on how to do so. First off is it a straight swap? or will there be welding involved to fit the engine into the car. also i am trying to decide what kind of v-8 to go with i would like to use a 351 windsor, but i dont know if that would be more difficult than the usual 302...Basically if anyone has any kind of knowledge about swapping for a v-8 or anything about 351 performance i could use the advice. Anything helps

Stevens, glad you joined! like i said, i am using my 306 and getting the trickflow top end kit and a 1400 buck stroker kit as well. I am just going to use my original block. I should have it all done by around christmas or a little after.

it is just a better crank, beams, and pistons, and yes you can get one for the 351. gofaststuff.com has food eagle brand stuff. it makes your engine bigger in cubic inches. More inches= more power. Like with mine, instead of being a 306, it will be a 347. The kit that i am getting is about $900, but will def. be worth it.

Hey my uncle had a 84 mustang 4cyl. then he bought a parts car that was a 92 gt, that was crached in the rear end. He put that suspension on the 84 and then put a 351C in the 84. So ya its possible. I can ask he what was all involved!

If you keep the 2.3 i would go to a stick. A4ld sucks... If you want to keep the 2.3 go turbo.. that will make it way more fun!! Just depends how far you want to dig in.

lol is it too late to vote?

Given the option, I would keep the 4 cyl and do the Volvo cylinder head conversion, convert it to a double overhead cam head. Turbo it, get 400 horse. At least.

Well to the thread resurrector (is that even a word?)

I would go 351 based swap. IF you feel the need for a v8, then might as well get the most bang for your buck. IMO no sense spending money on a 5.0 based engine when he can spend nearly the same money and end up WAY happier.

IF he decides to stay 4 cyl, have fun.

To EVERYONE ELSE, at least the guy was searching.
