Modular Motors?

I am just curious as to why our motors are referred to as modular motors. I'm a newbie so sorry for the dumb question. Thanks in advance.

2002 Mustang GT.
18" Shelby Torque Thrusts w/Mach 1 lip, Cobra Front End, Short Throw, K&N filter.
Nothing impressive as of yet, but I'm working on it.

SOHC DOHC are modular! The old 5.0s and 289s and 351s are pushrods! They actually only have one cam where we can have up to 4! Also the pushrod cams are down the center where ours are in our heads!

Also, I beleive the reason is that everything is interchangeable. ( or its ment to be )

it pretty much is interchangeable
We were taking the heads off of a v10 today and the only differance i seen really besides it having 2 more cylinders was that it had cam dampners in the heads.
