Just bought a 2001 Mustang

Hey guys! Finally, I can join the mustang club! I was in the market for a good deal Mustang GT and finally got one! I believe I got it for a really good deal. Single owner mustang by an older gentleman who needed room in his driveway for his daughters new car in a few months. It needs some TLC, but I am prepared to give it to her (good clay bar, wax, shine. Inside cleaned real well, ect). No pics, but I'll post them soon! Black GT with dark gray interior and black top (convertible). Got her for $6,000 and only 75k miles on it. Guy had receipts for all work done on the car (had all maintenance done on time and as needed). He got everything done at the original dealership he bought it at. Only problem is the convertible motor needs to be replaced. He dropped the price $500 (got him down to $6500, then haggled the repair to final cost of $6k) so I can get this done or do it myself. He showed a quote sheet for the reapir, and the actual pump has a bad piston and needs to be replaced.

Other then that, I have Borla Stingers, BBK offroad X pipe, SCT3 with Bamachips 93 tune, and American Muscle CAI in the mail.... oh yeah and new floor mats :) Cant wait to get it all installed and can't wait to be a part of this community!

Welcome to MM!

This site is a great place to be to gain some knowledge on these cars. Looking forward to seeing pics of the new ride. You'll love the Stingers; they sound very nice . Congrats!

Thanks guys!

BigJohn- it did happen LOL. I just need to wait until next week to pick her up. Need to get the check fedex'd from the bank plus the 4th of July holiday is messin me up. Anyway, hopefully by the time I get to pick her up, all my "goodies" will be in from the mail and I can get her all souped up.

So, one thing I noticed is the inside panels for the doors are pretty cheap. Boy do they pop out easily. My brother with a 2001 mustang GT coupe said his are like this as well. Guess it's a 'Stang thing?

Now I have to say goodbye to my explorer forum people. Had my truck for a while, but I needed a v8.

So I was reading that bolting up an aftermarket midpipe to stock manifolds may leak without special bolts. Can someone shed some light on this? I got a BBK offroad X pipe, but the manifolds are stock until I can afford some aftermarket headers.

It's a hit or miss thing with the leaks. Same goes if you get longtubes. Fortunately, I haven't had any leaks from my mid-pipe (knock on wood). Trick is to align everything up and tighten the bolts little by little on each manifold so it sits evenly and then torque them all the way down. Take your time on the install and you should be fine. It's worth it the first time you hear her start up :D.

A word of advice: Longtubes aren't really worth it unless you're planning to go F/I (or the like) and even then the gains are minimal. You should be just fine with your X-pipe and Catback. Invest that money into other mods.... (...nitrous...)

Wahoo! Would you say the stock manifolds flow just fine, or should I think about getting some shorties later down the road?

alivingmustang July 2nd, 2011 10:17 PM

Shorties down the road only if you pull the engine....

In my honest opinion...... Shorties aren't really ever worth it (unless you live in California and you have very strict emissions and you have a really nice engine build, F/I, everything, and are desperate for at least something lol). The stock manifolds flow just fine. Longtubes in the best conditions might give you 10 WHP or a little more which I believe to be a waste of money. they do sound nice but the amount of money plus the pain in the ass that they are to install makes it not worth it. The gains would be even less from Shorties. I've heard in some cases where the gains can be as little as 2-3 whp (seriously... what the hell is that?) lol.

So if I were you, I would get your x-pipe and your catback installed and start progressing towards either suspension mods or power adders. LCA's, UCA's, SF connectors, shocks/struts, springs, etc would be awesome for suspension. As far as gaining power, save your money up for some type of F/I. Lots of applications are available for these 2V's. And you really do get your monies worth with them.

Thanks for the input guys! I appreciate it. That's pretty much what I figured.

No problem man! Don't forget the search button is your friend. Lots of great information on this site (One of the better Tech oriented Stang forums). Best of luck. Don't forget to post pictures once you get your new GT when you get her!

Thanks! Yes, I prefer this forum over all others. Community seems to be larger and much more knowledgeable. And thanks for the tip on the search button

Those are darn near worthless it terms of hp earned, especially if your going to spend the time pulling the engine longtubes will prove better torque and low range than shorties.

Congrads on the purchase and welcome to the site. Alot of knowledgeable pepes in here :).
