Windsor Engine

Ok Fellow stang lovers I have an issue with the motor in my 2002 GT. It is a late 2002 production so all my stuff comes up 2003 when computer is scanned. I have a rod knock in my original 4.6 engine. I purchased a motor off ebay that stated it was out of a 2002 GT with 82,420 miles which should be a romeo engine like the one in my car. I picked up my engine from fedex today and when I got home and took it out of the crate it is dated 03/09/99 and has the 13/14 bolt windsor heads and a W on the block meaning its a windsor motor. My question is will this engine bolt up to my 02 and is it worth it? Should I wait for the correct romeo engine? I am very frustrated and don't want to make the wrong decision and put the wrong one in my car.

02 GT- TF TB/ upper, Basanni cat back, steeda triax, steeda UDP,MAC CAI, Vogtland springs, Steeda SFC, Poly bushings,KYB shocks/struts, MM CC plates, Steeda bump steer, Chrome Cobra R's, Aluminum DS, 04 Cobra brakes, Steeda FLSC.

Yes it will work, The only difference I see being an issue is the flex plate for the trans Windsor has 8 bolt////// Romeo has 6 bolt... So remove your flex plate and clutch from your Romeo and install it on the Windsor motor and everything else will bolt right in.

This. Theyre both PI engines. You wont even notice the difference when its in and running.

So the crank is an 8 bolt on a windsor and 6 on a romeo. So that means I have to buy a 8 bolt flywheel to work in my car correct? How about my Steeda pulleys that I just put on my Romeo engine will they bolt richt up?

02 GT- TF TB/ upper, Basanni cat back, steeda triax, steeda UDP,MAC CAI, Vogtland springs, Steeda SFC, Poly bushings,KYB shocks/struts, MM CC plates, Steeda bump steer, Chrome Cobra R's, Aluminum DS, 04 Cobra brakes, Steeda FLSC.

Yes that means you have to buy an 8 bolt flywheel in order to swap it over to the Windsor motor!! that's a lot cheaper then buying another motor. IMO the 8 bolt motor crank offers a little better stability for the Flywheel due to the extra bolts.

I dont believe the water pump pulley works. But im not 100%

How about the Steeda pulleys? I know the 99-01 romeo motors are different on the water pump. Will my 2002 pulleys work and will my new water pump work on this 99. I have filed a complaint with ebay due to the fact he advertised it as a 2002 motor which is a romeo.

Just swap the pump, isn't there a short pump and a slightly longer pump?

All the pulleys will work, Since you just so happen to have the water pump from the Romeo put it on the Windsor with its pulley and it will work too!!! the Windsor has a short water pump and the Romeo has the long one, but if you swap it over like I said no issues will be observed.

GUYS these are essentially the exact same motors with minor differences in the Valve covers/water pump and flex plates.

I bought a Windsor block for my build. You can swap your Romeo timing cover onto the Windsor block the only difference is the bolt size. Just buy a new Romeo water pump and your good to go. If I remember right the 99 had the 3bolt tensioner and the 02 has the one so it best to swap timing covers.

Make sure it wasn't a crown Vic Windsor which is non pi. It'll work either way you'll just have to do some work. I'd contact the seller though. If it's a place that sells motors they may have just palleted/shipped the wrong one on accident.

If you paid for a Romeo I would get the right one. Why wouldn't you? Longer pump and more spark plug threads. Yes it will work fine but I would want what I paid for.

I agree but here is the issue. The seller doesn't have a romeo or another mustang motor for that motor. I have talked to paypal and ebay and they both say I am in the right. I paid 900 for the motor and 225 shipping total of 1125. If I send the motor back I am on the hook for shipping to the seller and they only accept fededx freight and they quoted me over 500 to ship it back. So that would leave me 625 to get a new motor. I am going for money back and call it a day.

I THINK easiest way it make sure the crossover coolant tube in front of the intake is the same. Don't quote me on that though

Update: I settled with the seller for 450 which is 1/2 of what I paid for the motor. My next question is I am switching my Romeo timing cover to the windsor block. Will the bolts off my windsor be the right ones to put the romeo cover on my windsor block?

You don't have to switch covers but if you like the 3 bolt tensioner better then you can, its kind of a waste without a super charger because you'll never see belt slip. Swap the pumps and flywheel/flex plate and you should be fine.
