PI intake coolant leak?

I'll try to load some pics later, but I let my '02 GT sit for about 3wks, and after two quick drives my AC dies, and I develop a coolant leak. Yay.

The coolant leak problem:
It's definitely coming from the thermostat gasket area, or directly below on the intake (intake cross over that leads right up to the thermostat).
I can see what looks like a little bit of spray marks right in that area, my driver side of the motor is wet.

I caught the leak quick, no overheating.
My oil is clean.
The coolant is brown, but I believe from age.

From what I described, it's safe to say it's either the thermostat gasket, OR my intake has cracked in that area, correct?

,,,and if it's the intake manifold, I'm assuming (for my stock'ish car) the FRPP is the best choice - who's got the best price on these?

Graci

I bought it at 72k, she has 127k miles now.

Ya, I had a bad feeling it was probably the plastic under the aluminum crossover like you mentioned.

I'll dry it up tonight and watch for it happen to be sure.

Anyone got a new PI intake for sale? Where's the cheapest place to get a new one?

Well I see AM sells the FRPP one for $300, and another no name (I'm assuming the Dorman) for $200'ish.

Is the FRPP one the same as what came on my '02 from factory? Or are there three? (FRPP PI, Stock PI, Dorman/other junk)

Ya, I saw his for sale thread, he's very local,,, but it looks like that intake is off a car with 120k miles,,, mine has 127K and it just busted. I'm sure it's a good part he has, but I'd rather a fresh part.

Looks like Amazon has them for $240'ish shipped.
So my cart currently has:
FRPP intake manifold
8 Inj O-rings
Felpro intake manifold gasket set
New thermostat (already bought)
new thermostat gasket (already bought)

Do I need anything else for this job?

I'll probably do the plugs, and give the lower intake a good scub'n while i'm in there.

you need some high temperature rtv sealer for the sensor that bolts into the passengers side on the front of the manifold.

Forgot the RTV! - thanks Max.

I thought we had the 4 hole design injectors? Where do I get these pintle shrouds/caps? Never heard of them before.

Do not get the Dorman! Get the frpp all day. I got the Dorman and had to replace it.

Get some new felpro gaskets and a good torque wrench. Tighten the bolts in the right pattern and to the correct specs. Make sure the surface is extremely clean prior to installing the new intake. I did this with a wire brush and shop vac to suck up all the crap. It's not a hard job, just tedious.

I can't stress enough on how important it is to get the frpp one for proper fitment. Also buy new. I wouldn't trust this part used.

Indeed - the FRPP is what will be ordered.

There was thread on here that listed all the tools I would need - I can't seem to find it now?

Not looking forward to the work, my back has been killing me.
I've honestly been toying with the idea of selling her as I recently picked up another project vehicle (a regular cab dakota R/T), and of course this and the AC dying would happen.

Take it from me, the intake manifold is VERY easy to replace.

I'm sure it isn't bad. I've done a few intakes on various cars, swapped a few cams in my day - just popping my cherry on the mustang finally.

If I fix it,,, I'll probably keep it instead of selling it, and I need to sell it - have to many cars right now. I just love how these car look, and the ride.

I might even put the stock air intake/plenum/tb/tune back on... so depressing.

My AC issue ended up being a burned up relay box located in the passenger fender well. Only place I could find it was Napa locally. Sure it was online cheaper but I wanted it asap as no AC in FL with an all black car sucks.
