It's tax time and in lieu of being a responsible adult...

Long time since I've posted but I think it may be time.

I've owned the pony(04, yellow) since ~09 and it is bone stock.

I'm thinking it may be time for some fun.

bullit staggered wheels, 18's black and silver(i need new wheels desperatley, old wheels are bent to hell from 150k miles +/-
bbk CAI
SLP LM I
new headlights(factory are fogged as hell)
*pending* haven't decided yet because I also have some snake cages to order) ford racing 4:10's w/ bama tuner

I plan to repaint it in the spring as it was 99.9% hit before I bought it and the repaint is now peeling BAD.

Figured it was time for some mustang love.

That said, with mods listed what are the odds she feels like a new pony and what would you change

Obviously exhaust tone is personal preference HOWEVER, I'm open to ideas and suggestions for everything.

I just did 4.10's with the bama tuner (the x4) and i'm very happy with the upgrade.

The X4 with the 4:10's is the combo I'm looking at. It's out of stock at AM right now but I won't be pulling the trigger for ~ 2 weeks.

The only reason the gears are up in the air is due to budget. I have about 1k I need to drop on reptile caging as well.

Question: I'm sure it's been asked 100000 times before but since you just did yours, scale of 1-10, how much did it wake yours up off the line and through the gears?

so it's not like adding boost. i have a focus ST as well and when i roll into boost on that you get that wave of power.

the gears on the mustang aren't like that... at least to me. To me they really just make the car WAY more driveable. you have more useable power in any given gear. 5th gear is something i actually use now, i never feel like it's struggling. i'm not wondering if i need to drop to lower gears in the twisty climbs, etc.

it's a way better investment than say an intake IMHO. gears and install kit were like $200 or so and it was another $200 to have them put in...

If i ever buy another mustang it'll be the first thing i do.

BTW, where are you from? you can drive mine if you're local to pittsburgh.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a 2014 veloster turbo so I'm familiar with the boost feel you mention with the focus.

I actually laughed out loud regarding 5th gear. I share your feelings on it.

I'll be doing the install so that's one of the reasons i'm probably going to grab the tuner package AM offers. $ saved on install are $ for elsewhere.

Thanks for the offer, you're 5-7 hours away from me depending on whether I want to gamble with staties. I'm about an hour(with no traffic haha) northwest of Philly.

If I had any regrets about mods I've done, the CAI would be right up there. It changes the sound the car makes a teensy bit, but adds no more power than a K&N filter could do on its own. Gears and a tune are such a better choice. If it were me, doing mods again for the first time, and my budget was $1000 (figuring you're still doing wheels/tires and exhaust), I'd do gears, tuner, Ford C springs and Maximum Motorsports subframe connectors. The car will be completely transformed.

Your list sounds good to except for the intake. Not worth it.
Gears, wheels/tires, exhaust, tune, headlights are all good choices.

As me tiond above i'd also consider lowering springs and subframe connectors

My only hesitation with the springs is I have a steep driveway entrance and currently scrape if I don't pull in diagonal stock.

I don't really wanna be that guy that has to get out 2x'4s every time I pull in or pull out. I'm not sure how my clearances would be if I drop it any ><

I'll probably scrap the intake as that seems to so far be a fairly unanimous thought.

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake of buying non-Ford headlights. Did that on my 98 and I regret it everyday. All the OEM replacement ones are junk.

I'm very familiar lmao. My 95 sportster has about 3k in the motor. You never seen confused like a small to mid range plastic bike that gets walked on at a traffic light. They eat me in the high end though.

Even skipping the springs, these cars really have a bad suspension/chassis, and I still super recommend the subframe connectors. Instead of the springs and intake, why not go with cams?

Yes! they faded, they spider cracked and all the rubber insulation hardened up and cracked off. Got mine from LMR, I would be willing to bet $$$ that AM and LMR use the same vendor for headlights.

Ford headlights are head and shoulders better than the knockoffs. IMO the Ford ones are worth every penny. I am going to try and restore my Ford headlights on my 2002, if that doesn't work I'll order new ones from Ford.

I'm gathering parts to buildmy rear right now. I'd pick up the tuner used if you can. There's someone selling them on svtp right now I think. I got my x4 locked and sent it in to sct. All told I have around 250 bucks in it. I plan on getting the gears and install kit, and Axles from AM though minus the royal purple. Probably run something different. Its all about making that dollar go farther when you can, plus it's the thrill of the hunt for me. Also picked up my 31 spline track lock for 130 bucks. It's a low mileage unit from a gt500.

If you dont have subframe connectors, get those first. Its one of the best mods regardless of what you use the car for. Only get a CAI if you want the look, otherwise the factory intake is more than adequate.

Im about to snag some Brembos and a front k-member/front control arms/coil overs with my tax return.

Got the Cobra R Brembos for myself for my birthday last year. God damn are they nice. They fuck up the brake balance like crazy, but you have a Cobra, so maybe not so much for you.

I remember my gears and tuner package from am that started it all. That was 4 years ago, I officially have a "money pit" now.

God, that thread last month asking how much we spent on our cars was sobering.

Yes it's was. In a honestly I wasn't expecting to see anywhere near the number I came up with. What I've spent would have been a healthy down payment on a house.
