I figured i would chime in since that's what this thread was started for.. I've been around for a little more than a year, i usually come back whenever i need/want to learn more on whatever has been giving me trouble lately. This forum is full of great information. I usually don't comment on other threads other than to just say "cool car" or something, and I haven't been under my car enough to suggest any solutions.. but i do enjoy reading the build threads! I also do not have any plans or aspirations yet to make more power, so when everyone starts talking hp/tq numbers i usually just glaze over it. lol ..

I actually joined this forum in 2008 soon after I bought a 2001 mustang as a project. Had 3 kids, moved across the country, new jobs, life, etc. so a mustang was far from a priority since then. Thankfully I had a $0 spot in a warehouse where it sat under a cover otherwise collecting dust until two weeks ago when i finally got it in my garage and started disassembly. Been picking at it little by little on the weekends so far I've removed the stock engine, trans, exhaust, k-member and front suspension, hood, fenders, front header, etc. My next move is to remove the rear end since I just ordered all new brakes and parts for a 31-spline built rear. After that i'll begin installing my new front suspension and k-member. I'm going back in with a 3v from a 2005 GT. I know in these days of the Coyote swap some of you might be questioning putting a 3v in there but what the hell, a 3v will be fun and i already own it. If all goes well I can add a small PD blower later on to make it a low-rpm torque beast. The goals is to have a car that handles and brakes and is fun to drive and wrench on. I'm very motivated now to keep working on the car, it's been on the back burner for so long. I'm sure I'll need a ton of help along the way so hopefully not too many gurus have left this forum!

very cool parker, kinda scary to take it all apart at once, but everything you are doing suspension and drivetrain wise would need to happen eventually anyway. Sometimes the best thing is a good workspace and plenty of time. Good luck with this sounds like you have good plans.

Thanks for the good luck Porter, I'm in Austin too. If I ever get this thing rolling i'll probably show up at one of the car meets.

I joined 4 years ago when I got my 03 DSG GT. I mainly lurk, and read as much as I can, but I have also noticed people are leaving the forums. My main issue right now with the forums is, now that photobucket shit the bed, I have no idea what to use to post pictures anymore. I would like to update you guys on the goings on with my car, but it really is kind of a pain in the ass.

Photobucket pretty much killed the visual history of our forum. I switched to imgur.com for pictures. When posting pictures to the forum copy the IMG image and paste it in your comments.

Below is the car I bought after graduating from high school. It is a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 with a 426 Wedge, 4 speed transmission and dual line Holley 850. The picture was taken when I was stationed in Arizona.

We used to street race and had quarter mile painted on one of the highways complete with staging area. It lost only one race. That was against a 1969 Chevelle with a 396. He jumped me more than a car length out of the hole and I just couldn't make up all the difference. He beat me by a fender. His secret weapon was wide oval tires. As soon as I could I ditched my 8.75 x 14s and bought some Poly Glass H70 wide ovals. His car looked like this one. You can see his secret weapon in the picture.

Pictures really can make a story. Its unfortunate that Photobucket screwed us over.

I can't imagine running those old cars on the period correct poly glass bias plies. Thankfully they were outdated by newer radials when I was growing up, and I still run radials on them.

For photobucket, you can use the photobucket fixer add on for Firefox or Chrome to view the photos in a forum.

Thought I'd chime in as well. I joined this forum in 2013, but I've been active in other mustang forums (corral, stangnet, modularfords) long before that (added the blower in 1999, shortly after I bought the car). Most of my posts were concerning drag racing, but I haven't been to the strip in 3 years. Ironically, the car was finally running perfectly when I stopped racing it. Been barely driving the car since, because of a new job. So my activity in these forums diminished. Was considering selling the car, but that would be difficult. Besides, I don't think I could go through with it. So I just began working on it again to make it more streetable and fun. First thing on the list was replacing the faceplated tranny with a T56 magnum (just finished that project). Next will be replacing the 90/10 struts and tightening up the suspension.

I have always tried to avoid taking it to the extreme in one department or the other for fear of making it unenjoyable. However in the pursuit of power, i have fallen into the rabbit hole. I am almost finished with my build and all i want to do is drive it like a normal car again. I havent driven it regularly in 3 years. So i feel your pain. The only thing oem on my car is the tranny.. somehow it still hasnt died. We will see with this new turbo i am putting on.

I'm still here at least once or twice a week. I don't like Facebook or any other social media platform (Government database so they can track us). Need I say more?

Thanks Tony I sent a pm. I use to read your post back in the day on corral. You had that car rollen. I'm in the same boat built. Started building my car for track and before I could finish it the 2 local tracks closed.

That sucks Sonic. How far is the closest track? I used to drive 65 miles (each way) to Cecil County, with the car loaded with tools and tires. Now I live much closer to a drag strip (MIR is only 20 miles away). I may get back into it, though...the last few times I raced, the car ran perfectly. I remember thinking that it wasn't going to do better than 10.30's, so the next step would be swapping the T-trim to a YSi.
