I currently have 3.73 gears installed about a yr old, did all new bearings and seals. At the time I didn’t have my turbo kit installed. So now with my turbo setup I wanna change back to 3.27. Since both have 11 pinion teeth and the only difference being the amount of teeth in the ring gear, Could I just change the ring gear and leave the 3.73 pinion the same?
I don't think so. Gear sets are setup and lapped together as a matched set from the factory. To successfully mix-and-match, you would need tooth angles, spacing match, and the mesh engagement to be close enough to yield a decent contact pattern -unlikely. If you monkey with the spacing, you might be able to make it work initially, but it would probably whine like a some-bitch, prematurely wear the gear set and cause you more grief a few miles down the road. I'd say, not worth going cheap on that one.
Bought 3.27 ring and pinion gonna do install in a few weeks because I am currently painting the car. I’m going 3.27 because I keep blowing through the gears with my 4r70w before I build max boost.
