Mustang build/boost questions

Hello all, I am new to mustangs. I am sorry for another “I am new and want more power thread” but there is a wealth of information and lots of opinions out there which has left me confused and frustrated. I have always liked the new-edge mustangs and I’m buying one soon. It will have 85k miles on it. I want to supercharge or turbocharge it shortly after. I was thinking of On3 with a better quality turbo and wastegate as I have read mixed reviews on their kits over the years although in recent years it seems positive.
The other option is to buy a used supercharger kit from eBay, pick up a used supercharger and get it rebuilt. My goal would be 400-500bhp. Following that some suspension mods and gear setup. What would you recommend on a stock block? Do I need performance intake manifold?

how much am I looking to spend on my goals? Can this be achieved within $5k-$7k? Thanks

I'll answer this for you since I dont believe others will cuz, no offense, a quick search will grant you all the information you need.

The quickest and easiest, imo, would be to slap a supercharger kit in, tune it, and call it a day You dont have to change anything else thats too drastic. However, I say 'too drastic' loosely because for someone who works on cars all the time or are super familiar with our cars, supercharging/turbocharging is not really such a big deal. Again, thats not for all, only some.

Adding a turbo for our cars (any car that doesnt already have one i guess) is a little bit more involved and if youre asking this type of question, im going to guess it would be too involved at your 'level'. If it's not too involved for you, its too much information to drop in on a quick reply.

My best advice for you is research, research, then research some more. The interwebz has a TON of information out there but again, research is key because not all the information out there is valid/good.

For your goals and budget a supercharger kit is ideal. You can pick up a brand new kit from some of the pricier outlets within that budget. Add in an intercooler, charge air pipes, fuel system and tune and you're still within budget. If you piece it together, you can save a lot more money if you're patient, but if you want to get everything in one neat little box brand new with warranty, you can afford it.

Turbo can certainly work as well, but might put you closer to the budget limit. It's got a lot more potential than the supercharger, but if you're only looking for 400-500hp, a supercharger will do that all day, and it's a lot easier. A supercharger is more of a bolt on affair. Turbos require a lot more piping, replacing exhaust parts, managing heat, and most challenging of all, replacing the whole front K-member. A LOT more work.

For the miscellaneous questions: I would not exceed 450hp under any circumstances on the stock block. In the 400-450hp range would be a safe limit.

You do not need a performance intake manifold, especially at that level.

I'm a little biased but I'd recommend a ProCharger P-1SC. Its a centrifugal supercharger. I installed mine on a stock motor at 80k miles. The car currently has 215K miles. Its makes for a great daily driver.

I'm running somewhere around 440-450 horsepower at the block with 8.9 lbs of boost. ProCharger has a different gear ratio than Vortech. It runs a larger pulley for the same boost. I have never had a problem with belt slippage.

I have had my car on a dragstrip during test and tune days. Traction was a problem and spinning ain't winning. I was launching around 2000-2100 rpm before punching it down. The motor would bog down ever so slightly. My best that day was a 1.9 60 ft and a 12.7 quarter.

If you can upgrade the kit to a 3-core intercooler. When I bought mine it was one of the best intercoolers on the market.

Check my garage for other mods.

I'm assuming the car you are buying is a GT? I had a Vortech S trim on my GT for 5 years. Car made 360rwhp for 4 years and 411rwhp for almost 2 years. No issues. Have the blower on my auto Mach now making nearly 550rwhp on the stock motor. Used complete intercooled setups sell for $2500-$3000. A centri supercharger does not require any other changes other than the injectors, fuel pump, maf, and spark plugs. On a stock GT keep it under 12psi and 420rwhp and the motor will live a long happy life with a good tune. Make sure to do your research on tuners.

on a stock motor I think supercharger is the way to go.. If your looking for over 500 its turbo time.

+1 on everything everyone said.

Supercharger will be the easiest route to your power. Having been on both sides of the fence... i would recommend the supercharger. Turbo setups are not for the faint of heart. I really liked my procharger woth the 3 core intercooler. It ran really well with a higher gear like 3.73/4.10 gears.

Your budget can afford you a used p1sc intercooled kit, and a set of blower cams and valve springs. Make more power by increased efficiency with lower cylinder pressures.

For suspension, Maximum Motorsports does the trick for me. They present the facts and offer solutions, but they never push for a sale. They have even answered completely unrelated driveline questions in detail. One of the best companies i have ever worked with .

Mmr900 4.75 striker. Stock heads, CMS stage 2 turbo cams, on3 67mm ball bwaring billet wheel turbo kit @12.7 psi

Anther vote for the Centrifugal Supercharger. I had my Bullitt on 11lbs at 420ish rwhp for about 8 years. Still ran strong when I pulled the engine out in favor of a built engine.

Vortech V3 kit will be the best for the setup. It will make fun reliable power and is easy to install .

Youll need a fuel pump and injectors. if possible i always suggest a swap to E85

I cover some of my builds through time here but i also need to update my bio etc to reflect.
