So, ever since I got rid of my Bronco, I've had a hole in my fleet for a decent dog carrier/back-up family carrier. Wife's getting a little tired of the minivan, and let on that she's a little cranky to have to have to be the one with the car that can carry the whole family.
I've been thinking about picking up an '05+ Expedition; that would give me the 3v 5.4L, they're rated the same for mileage as an Explorer but have more room and power, and they seem to be listed for fairly cheap relative to other similar vehicles.
Are there any gotchas with these trucks? Is it worth it holding out for an '07+ with the 6-speed?
I have no need of off-road capability, and this would make occasional long freeway drives. I'm 100% okay with it having IRS (provided it's not garbage). I just want something big, comfy, cheap, that can cruise at 80mph on the freeway without really straining.
I also considered a diesel Excursion, but they seem to be twice the price and being that I don't need to tow or haul anything beyond people and dogs, I'd feel like a poser-douche to have a Powerstroke. Also, I don't need *that* much room.
