Hey guys,

This question pertains to my wife and I's 2003 PT Cruiser Limited with Auto trans. the Chassis/body has 127K on the clock. The transmission blew out fully at 98K (factory trans- the rebuild shop alleged parts welded themselves together). Here we are, 29K miles later, and my wife said the trans seemed to slip around second gear (3 speed trans). It was 1.5 qts low roughly. after I filled it, I noticed small air bubbles on the DIP stick. The passenger side CV seal was leaking (PT seals are notorious for that) and this rear door at the bottom that was sealed with 47.6lbs of RTV had a small leak coming from it as well. That door houses the gears that transfers the power to the driver's side CV shaft. I sealed all this back up, replaced the filter, ect... However, there are some concerning factors about this transmission. Why do I see large aluminum shavings in the pan? Why does the magnet look so clogged with shavings ? It only has 27K on it!!!!!!!! WTF!

I was told by a shop in town here, based on a pure verbal phone call that the aluminum shavings in the pan were the casing falling apart, and due to the trans being like this after 27K, something major was failing here with it, and I need to just get a used low mile one, and run it.

Shavings are normal, did you replace it with a used, rebuilt or new transmission?

Dude...what is up with you reviving all of these old posts from like 6 months or more?
