Holy shit, I hadn't looked at HDD prices in a while. The 1TB drive I bought for $60, 6 months ago is now $130...

DDR3 is way cheaper than ddr2, since ddr2 has effectively become a legacy device. I was looking to jump up to 8gigs of ddr2 a while back and it was almost $200, while the 8gigs of ddr3 was like 100

Yeah they had that big flood over in a region of the world where they make a lot of these drives and now prices have gone through the roof.

hmmm. I wonder is this tower worth working with. I'd hate not to use it, as I paid good money for it way back when... but damn. Not sure if I should bother with this one and get a new one...

Nothing is really wrong with that computer case. The drive bay design is a bit dated, and will be a little more difficult to install the drives, but everything will work with it... Spend the money elsewhere

Have to agree, but if you want to get rid of it I'll take it

DDR 3 is cheaper DDR2 is the older style and starting to cost more and more. It did something different with the bandwidth and voltage I think. Not as efficient as DDR3.

Here you get an i7 build with an SSD (only sata 2 though. Sata 3 SSD will cost more 120GB ~$160USD)

Sata 2 will be around 200MB/s transfer while your typical hard drive will be around 40MB/s

Nothing wrong with the jap case at all. I just finished building a computer in one like that but it was black. The locks are a little weird and I am not a fan of where the USB port is (top middle of the case) so if it is sitting in a desk cavity it can be hard to reach the USB port.

CJ, usb's are 2.0

Gonzoid, what is 'SSD' ?

And right now the currency exchange is almost par, so that's not a big deal at all. I also have a parcel pickup in Michigan I can use, so that also helps.

SSDs are the most bad ass thing to happen since bill gates made the joke about memory. SSD is Solid State Drive. No moving platters or parts. A mid range hard drive spins at about 7200 RPM. Typically the faster it spins the faster it can read and write data. With SSD there are no moving parts and they blow typical hard drives out of the water. Everything opens up as soon as you click it.

They cost more, but are really worth it. You put your operating system on the SSD and keep your storage and other stuff on the slower typical hard drive. I will be putting my two SSD drives in a raid on my i7 build and hope to hit ~500MB/s.

I just put a comp together for my parents, my buddy had motherboard
I paid like 200+ for hard drive,video card,case,wireless router,keyboard mouse
Few other parts my buddy had, so u can maybe get away with using some ur older parts
I also connected it to the flat screen tv, its workin great

If u have alot of pics, videos look into downloading xmbc, its perfect for video playing, u can even load ur youtube on it

It is bad ass. It's not just boot times either. Opening applications is fast as hell. But with XP you don't get the trim feature which acts like a garbage man (so I have heard lol) If you do go with the SSD, I would suggest upgrading to windows 7.

I tried xbmc, but I'm more partial to mediaportal. That's what I'm running on mine.
