of course u cant start a build thread without a lil background, sooo I purchased this car off a dealer lot in 2005, paid $16,500 and my last payment is next month (5 year loan, but got a 2 year extension, so i can have lower payments due to college) the car now has 150,000 miles, I recently enlisted in the airforce and i leave for basic on april 24th and originally planned on buying a new car after tech buuut decided it'd be nice to do a rebuild on the engine/tranny instead of having car payments. but me being me i couldnt just do a stock rebuild. now before i get into the engine heres some quick pics of what ive done to the car so far
(I will edit all updates into this orignial post)
03 cobra front, chrome cobra rims, gt side scoops
03 cobra spoiler, matte blackout vinyl, gt rear bumper, sequential taillights
the interior has been redone with 01 cobra seats, mach1 rear seats, a roush interior trim kit, white faced gauges, mgw aode handle, aluminum gauge rings, aluminum ac knobs, and a pioneer avic d3 sat-nav system
Now to the engine build, which is still in a work of progress, my sis has an 02 mustang v6 which she wrecked (now has an 06 GT) so i used her car as a parts car so i can freely build the engine and still drive my car around.
started with the engine pull (forklifts are super convenient)
down to the bare block
Next, I started the porting and polishing process (which took alooong time) I oredred the p&p kit from eastwood and used an electric die grinder my old man had in his shop.
first the upper intake,
heres a lil side by side, before and after comparison when i gasket matched the ports
the lower was a pain and took twice as long as the upper
then it was time for the heads!
by far the hardest part, but about halfway through i found a set of carbide burrs that made the process a lil easier
after about 2 weeks on and off everyday the p&p job was done.
I was kinda nervous diving into it, but I wasnt serious on making optimum power, I was thinking of it as a learning experience, but then i took my heads down to the machine shop for a valve job and he said i did a good job on'em.
I then took the block down to the machine shop to be prepped and bored.
while its been at the shop all the parts ive ordered started coming in.
starting with the 4.2 crank (had the machine shop order the 4.2 pistons in .30 oversize along with the rebuild kit)
compcams valve springs and retainers from ssm (still waiting on the cam should be here mon)
aand to kill time started to paint
the actual assembly will start next week and will update accordingly
picked up the engine and rebuild kit from the machine shop. $1500 for machine work plus all the gaskets etc. also paid extra to get the crankshaft balanced.
the block got bored .50 over
and painted it good ol' ford blue
cam came in today, ordered from supersix motorsports
cam specs- 224/230 .54/.54 114
.50 over 4.2 pistons
decked ported and polished heads with 3-angle valve job
comp cams valve springs
ported and polished lower intake
valve covers on
