I just wonder what kind of aftermarket support and upgrade capabilities the engine will be able to do performance wise. Seeing as they already come turbo'ed I really hope the market picks this one up

@ Reverend Dexter-- Thats what I was wondering. That puts it in perspective.

@ Kohrs--I can see the benefits of keeping miles off the Mustang if you can get another DD

I can tell you right now the first road block with be the direct injection. Someone will have to come up with a new high pressure pump once people start maxing the stock fuel system. That is also what is keeping SHO's in the 400AWHP range. I think the highest HP SHO right now is 450AWHP or something like that and he has Meth injection as well. But he is beyond maxxed on the fuel system side. However, from what I'm told and what I've read Ecoboost motors can take a lot of abuse.

The above is also what happened to Mazdaspeed6's. FYI.

I drive about 100 miles per day round trip to work, so I need something dependable that gets great MPG. My '93 Festiva gets 48 Hwy MPG and has served me well for 150K miles until just recently. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding a 1.6L (9.5:1 CR, ported head, mild cam & header) to replace the stock 62Hp 1.3L engine. Should give me just over 100HP and still get 40+ MPG. I've been driving my '97 F250, but 16 MPG wasn't working out, so until I get the Festiva back on the road, I'm driving the Stang.

That is such a clean little festiva you got there, I remember you talking about it almost a year ago about upgrades and what not. I know you have no intentions, but man I would slap some little light weight wheels on there just for shits and giggles.

Haha...the factory wheels were 12". Couldn't get tires anymore, so I upgraded to 13" Mazda 323 alloys with 175/50R13 Sumitomos. I originally planned on doing a 1.6L DOHC Turbo engine swap from a Mercury Capri XR2, but the only engine I could find was pretty much toast. I decided to go with the 1.6L SOHC due to the fact that it's a direct bolt-in and adds ~40% more power. I may add a junkyard turbo after the engine is broke in, but all I want is enough power to cruise the highway safe and comfortable. There's a guy in Sacramento with a 1.8 DOHC swap (Escort GT motor) and a junkyard turbo set-up that runs low 12's with 2.0 60'. Another guy in Phoenix runs his at Firebird on the road course with great success. When the car only weighs 1700Lbs, it responds well to simple suspension upgrades...Urethane bushings, better struts, cut springs, good tires and factory sway bars are all it takes to pull ~1.0G.

I have always wanted a festiva. Never can find one in good shape though. My daily is a 06 GTO. Fast and ugly is what I call it. Been thinking lately about ditching it for a truck.

2012 GT Premium. Drive like a grandma until someone makes a move.

Probably going to be an '87-'93 Fox. GT or 2.3, but it'll definitely have a 5 speed.

If your looking into a sports coupe why not look into the audi S5? Much better interior and has awd so you dont have to worry about the weather as much.
