Very true. I actually met him 2 years ago at the emco gears classic, world challenge race at mid ohio while he was running the volvo. Everything he says is true. Ive been very fotunate to meet alot of people like him. My dream track is laguna seca and nueburering(sp?).

Maybe some year ill get to race in the world challenge series. The only difference between our gt500 and the w/c mustangs is the tune in the motor.

Loved watching that video. I wanna start doing open track drift days and auto x competitions at willow springs raceway when i move back to California. You guys are gonna call BS but ive gotten so much better with car control over the years that it feels easy to me and im looking for a new challenge. I took my ex wet drifting last month and mid drift, i was talking to her casually explaining what i was doing and what the car was doing and i didnt even realize it. I mean if drifting doesnt challenge me that much anymore, i feel like i have a TON of potential with daily bback to back practice and formal training with a driving instructor. Hell i wanna find one of you guys in SC and take you drifting and show a MM member first hand my driving potential. Then they could back me up online if anyone accuses me of being a troll or poser. ANYBODY HERE LIVE IN SC??

Oh and ill take on any driving challenges! Please dare me to prove my driving ability! I need someone to calm my cocky ass down when it comes to car control. You guys saw where i was drifting the terminator on the first damn weekend i tried it a few years ago! The skys the limit for me. I just need to be noticed by the right person that could possibly get me on a driving/racing team! Or at least make an application.

And having a lil 300zx helps too. Drives much better than the termi did. Richard Hammond on the show Top Gear used a 300 for a lil challenge one time and he commented on how balanced it was. I see what he meant now.

If you are an SCCA member, Randy Pobst does an article in every issue of Sportscar which is the SCCA's magazine. They are usually pretty interesting.

I've always wanted to get into road racing. I doubt I could afford it however with the costs assosicated with wear and tear/brakes. So much harder on a car then just a 1/4 mile pass.

I used to have a 2 hour commute to work. I would entertain myself by hitting the apex of every turn. Staying in my lane of course but actually riding the outside line then dipping in no matter the turn. I probably had people looking at my like wtf but hell it made the drive better.

I just wish I had the chance to get into a race car and be told lets see what you can do. Until then I guess it's a lot more Forza on the wheel with all assists off.

Look up autocross. It's cheap, accessible, and not hard on much more than tires and isn't that hard on those. A lot of pro racers including Randy Pobst started in autocross. It focuses almost entirely on handling and is the most intense 60 second of driving you can do. It also translates very well to road course driving.

Is it purely for fun or something to gain from it? Is there classes to compete in or is it my slow S197 vs a Porsche on a road slick? I doubt our cars really keep up with the more nimble smaller sports cars, hell even a miata/s2k in tight turns like that.

Well, there are classes split up to keep cars in similar performance levels in similar levels of competition but most upgrades Mustang owners do (lower control arms, relocation brackets, etc) bump you into some high prep levels against cars on slicks.

Personally, I do it for fun, and for personal satisfaction that I do reasonably well considering the car and my prep level. If you get addicted and get really good (several years) there are national level competitions where winning can yield money from contingencies. Lots of companies that you can slap their sticker on and if you are good you can win money or tires or parts from.

And yes, the smaller lighter cars do go faster. So do folks who can afford to dump tons of money into tires and their car setup but there are those who do that who do pretty bad too so it's not only about money or the car being light and nimble. Lots of fast classes with pony cars!

Great video, thanks for sharing. I start my journey this summer with autocross. Hopefully it goes from there.

My father raced in the 70s, Lotus 18, Brabahams, ect. He raced everywhere mid Ohio, walkens glen, Elkhart lake, all over Canada.
