I have an '03, only real issue is the torque converters like to strip out, causing it to not move. Also, starters like to go out, due to the placement of the oil filter.

My friend had one that he drove through college and such. I drove it a few times and was surprised about the bad gas mileage it got (like 20mpg). It also had the turning radius of a school bus. I couldn't park that thing to save my life. lol His was a 04' I think. It was a pretty reliable car though and he only replaced the starter and and basic maintenance on it as far as I know.

My 1976 Buick Electra Limited, my first car...

Compared to the 05 Taurus, almost a full 2 foot longer wheelbase.... a full 3 feet longer... now THERE was a car that had a shitty turning radius. lol

My mom has an 03 Taurus. Has been a fantastic car, only has 110k miles. The fuel pump just recently took a shit which really sucked, but other than that there hasn't been too many issues. Torque converter messed up like marc said but it was under warranty, had a couple batteries die, and a few other small things but nothing too major/unexpected outside of the converter.

Is the turning radius really that bad? I always thought it was pretty good, given I am comparing it to my car with 9" wide wheels, so I can't turn all the way because it rubs on the A-arms.

haha i'm used to shitty turning radius. My first car was a 1978 cougar (which i still have and miss driving) and i was born in 1987. I just meant the taurus seemed really bad for a somewhat modern car(like worse than my cougar). It was kinda deceiving to try and make a sharp turn with it. Of course I dumped some money into my cougar to make the handling a little better but it was still far from refined.

Pics of my Cougar

and about how it looks right now sitting in my parents garage...

Ok..enough thread derailment...
