Those moldings around the windows are not metal. They are urethane like the bumper covers and drip rail molding are. I've painted quite a few of them, and you need to use a product for urethane such as SEM's line of flexible primer surfacers and paints. They also sell a flexible filler for the deep imperfections. I sanded mine down a lot and used the SEM surfacer to level it all out. 20 years later it's still looking like new. They have a sealer you can spray on it before you lay paint on it, but I didn't use that. I sprayed a wet coat of surfacer on it and sanded it with 400 then painted it. I'm not sure what metal you were finding in it, but it could have some sort of subframe under it that helps keep it's shape, but I have never seen it.
Car looks like it's coming along. Where are you located?

Yeah, I'm ready to get it done. Good thing is that it's January already. So a few more months!

Was excited to move it but... I can't get it started dead battery, so get my jump box, dead also. So I grab my small jump box, of coarse it's dead!

Ok let me grab my jumper cables, oh wait i tossed them because I had two jump boxes and the cables where old and I never used them. Guess I learned my lesson. So I charge the box up and wait till tomorrow (actually today) and try again.

Next day go out there, get excited to move it so I can start all the paint prep. Hook up the box and get the rapid clicking sound. Wtf? Tried a few times all with same result. Take out the battery and do what I have for Junkers sitting and use the box right to the cables. Now I get either rapid clicking like a dead battery or maybe loose connection. Mess around and try it again. Now it's one single click, then no power at all. I turn off jump box and try again same thing. One click then no power.

Any ideas? I'm not sure if the solenoid is bad, I don't think it's the starter or alt. Everything did work fine until I parked it a few months ago. Then after a couple with no starts it was dead dead no lights on dash or anything.

I would check your main ground wire. Do you have universal terminal ends on it, or stock cables/ends?

I'm not sure, don't think they are stock tho. One has a molding in it for another smaller yellow wire. Dunno what it was for tho lol

Going to get a battery tonight, and check the grounds too. I look past them because it was running while sitting before.

Got the half of my garage sealed off, got a lot of my equipment set up.

Decided to start sanding the roof and seen some chips/flakes hanging on.

Went to scrape them off and the paint just came right off with ease. So basically I'm stuck removing it all. Going to strip it actually. Last thing I want is my paint to come right off because of this other guys hack job.

Plus there is another layer of paint below the red. lol

Looking good man,

Is that blue or purple there?

And at least if you bring her right down to bare metal you can do it once and do it right just take your time.

Yeah it's purple, I'll grab a good shot of it where it wasn't covered by red. About to go start the roof.

I didn't have much stripper left, and a quart isn't enough to do shit lol

So today I picked up two gallons and some smaller cans to put it in along with a few cheap brushes. Works alright, of coarse I wish it was a little better. But I have to consider the horrid paint that was applied thick on top of other layers.

Pics of progress

Figure tomorrow I'll have that done and move on to another area.

Man that's looking real good.

And yeah my dad seems to think purple was their primer?
I'm not sure but could be because right after the purple was bare metal.

Thanks!

Maybe, what was the color of the car? im sure they tint any color you want. Maybe changes the way their main coat looked? Hell idk im just guess at this point lol

And yeah it's cleaning it up nice, going to have a lot of small areas to hit later. Now I'm just going to get all major areas then work around it getting edges and what not. I'm thinking the jams won't get stripped because he didn't spray them really. I'll sand them and clean them up real good.
