My ex's family was like that. A couple years in a row they took us gambling and we ate at the (actually very good) casino buffet that was like $35 a person. The food was turkey and stuff and we had a good time, I just prefer staying in a warm home and eating some home cooking.
Im in Allentown, here until Saturday morning sometime. I wouldn't mind gambling..but I agree I enjoy my family's cooking and just relaxing around the table compared to having waitresses not wanting to be there and just wanting the next group to come sit down and take your table.
I made about 13 turkeys; 3 steamship rounds; 8 hams; 10 gallons of gravy; 10 30 serving pans of stuffing, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes; and a shit ton of veggies...
LOL. Been there, done that. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that kind of production ever again. When I was at the NY NY Hotel and Casino we did 800 at Thanksgiving. That shit sucked. How long did it take for the steamships? I used to hate cooking them.
