I know, I've needed a shack for a while but they all closed round here too. I've had to settle for a bungalow

Theres only like 2 or three in southwest florida left but screw them Id rather buy electronic stuff off of ebay. For little stuff their prices are ok but for other things they sell I buy on ebay for cheaper, its all made in china anyway. But then again I dont do too many electronic projects lol.

Radio shack did go out of business but some people bought into the franchise and they could keep the name

I was wondering. Mine locally never went under, but the one but my college did. If they were allowed to buy franchises then how are they still getting radio shack stuff? Shouldn't all the "radio shack" branded stuff start becoming obsolete? Or are these franchises keeping them open. It doesn't make sense to me.

Like for example if you go in there you can still buy a radio shack branded AC/DC converter. Once all the radio shack stuff is gone do they source stuff from elsewhere, but keep the radio shack name?

And by the way, their website still has stuff to buy on it.

You can tell that they are still in business because of the way they are.

I've got one around here and when I swapped all of my interior LEDs out in the Mustang. It paid having one local for that project.

For doing things like that it definitely pays to have one. Unfortunately they're so expensive compared to what you can get the stuff for online that they ran themselves out of business. Being a convienient stop for the once a year project that needs just one LED or diode will not keep the doors open. Especially when I can buy an entire assortment of diodes from eBay for 5 bucks. In a pinch radio shack is convienient, but for 99% of electronic projects people do, they just buy the stuff online.

All of that stuff has such a low price point too. They rely on stuff with higher mark ups to keep the doors open. And the stuff with higher markups and or price points like electronics are 20% more than you can get them for online.

Two of the ones I know got turned in to Sprint stores now. kinda funny cause that's all the local radio shack really sold was sprint contract phones, Boost, T-Mobile non-contract phones, cards for non-contract phones, and phone accessories.

the other two I know got gutted and sold their inventory to other stores and had a sale. I was like why are they having a 50%~75% off sale for???

They shut down because they began to SUCK. RS used to be where you went when you needed electronic parts, but then they decided "screw it let's just sell phones". So everytime you walked in they tried to stuff a phone down your throat.....

They got too far away from their core niche model and tried to take on the big dogs. If they would have just stayed the way they were and improved on that it would have gone better for them. I work with an ex-employee of theirs.
