Getting ready for summer

Some of you follow me on IG and have probably already seen my pics (Colleen, Rick). So nothing new here...

Anyway, I made a thread a few months back about picking up a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since then, I've been working on it daily to get it running strong. I've been stumped with an electrical issue lately, which I'm hoping to resolve by replacing the battery. The jeep *dies* (as in no power to ANYTHING, no headlights, no engine power, no windows, no door chimes, nothing) when I turn the AC on when the headlights are on, and the stereo turned up (and the engine has always been warm when it died). My multimeter had a reading of 12.55 with engine off, and 13.92 with engine on. So it looks like the alternator is working.

Anyway.... I just got done installing an OEM tow hitch I picked up at the junkyard, and couldn't help myself. I hooked the boat up last night and took her for a spin around the neighborhood...

Some past pics:

Day I picked the jeep up:

Fixed melted wires:

Started tearing apart the front end:

Pulling engine:

Tearing apart the block:

Sent out the engine parts to the machine shop. Bored out the cylinders, shaved the crank, had a valve job done on the heads:

Engine is ready to go back into the jeep:

Me working on hooking the engine up:

Where we're at as of last night:

And also, parts for the 4x4 conversion...

Yeah, I don't want to be the fool at a boat ramp who can't "get it up"

Is that a 4.7?

Was there something wrong with the engine? Just wondering why you pulled it and tore it down, didn't see a mention up above.

Did you do anything else to it or just give it a rebuild? BTW those are some tiny exhaust ports on that thing...

Yes, it's the 4.7v8 (notice the two heads). Curious what you mean by tiny exhaust ports?

As for the rebuild, I bought the jeep broken. It was misfiring on 2 cylinders. Found out the o2 wires were melted, popping the fuses. Then found out the heads needed work.

So I did my typical rebuild...

I bored out the block and installed larger pistons in the engine.

I found the main ground wire had some gunk on it, so I removed it, and cleaned it up. Hoping, just hoping, that could be the culprit...

I was referring to this picture:
