always wear safety glasses!

i was in the process of installing a holley carb on my 70 galaxie. it came with those springy wire type hose clamps that you squeeze with a pliers to open them up. well it popped out of the pliers and flew straight into my eye. it was so fast that it hit before i could even flinch or close it. i heard it thud when it hit too. i cant see out of my left eye, its all blurry. the doctor at the ER said i have a good size laceration in the cornea. on the bright side, it will heal up and ill make a full recovery. but yeah, lesson learned.

Those clamps should be banned. I fucking hated installing ice makers because of that shit. Shit would constantly spring loose and snap your finger. Third time it snaps your finger people walk off to take a break lol

I started carrying the screw style hose clamp and tossing the factory shit clips in the trash.

And now the video we get to watch at work before the real safety training lol

I usually use either vise grips or small channel locks for those spring clamps. They are nice for places where it's tough to get a screwdriver in though.

Years ago when I was in college I was trying to do something quick, grinding a spot on a fender for my car and a little piece of metal flew up and hit me in the eye. Didn't do anything, didn't have to go to the hospital or anything else (I wear contacts so it might have hit my contact), but I've been pretty careful about wearing safety glasses when doing any kind of a job where particles are thrown toward me. I still never wear them for drilling or using a sawzall though.

Yeah I've had too much shit fly into my eyes while wrenching on my cars. Just recently dumped tranny fluid on my face while pulling a filter I thought was empty...

I've usually been pretty lucky with my eyes, knock on wood, as far as things flying into them.

Only time I hurt my eye was riding through some trails on the Rzr. It was late and I couldn't really see with my goggles on so I pulled them off. Next thing I know I get popped in the eye by a tree branch, same deal as you. I was a big baby, it sucked lol. Hated that feeling so much.

You don't know pain until you've had fiberglass in your eye.

I actually like my safety glasses. The have two dorky little LEDs on them that light up what I'm working on pretty good. They are actually quite handy.

I learned my lesson using a buzz saw on wood making cabinets in the garage. Piece of wood flew into my eye and got stuck. Had to see a specialist to get it out.

I like wearing my safety's with a led lamp strapped to my head when working on the car. I'm gangster

Thank you to carrier and there unfaced fiberglass Evaporators from the 80s. I know this all too well. Tried to turn on the blower to get some relief, instead you're just hot and blind now.

I remember when I was young, I was riding in our old toyota pickup (my first car later down the road). had the window down when a piece of rust flew off and into my eye. Tore my eye in multiple ways. That was bad pain.

saftey glasses related (sorta). Last year I was at work delivering a dumpster. Had to move a chain. Well some point in that process I got a piece of rust or dirt stuck in my eye. I had nothing to flush it out and no one home to help me. It was so painful. I had to drive 9 miles back to town to stop at a fire station. Almost gave up and called 911. Regardless I made it there and they flushed it out. Still had a bad scratch that I got treated later. Moral of that story is now I ALWAYS wear my sunglasses that wrap around the eyes good, when ever im out side working.
