[ SON1C Blue Full Correction 40+ hours invested ] guest starring bluesmokesixxer

So it goes something like this..picked this up used, and have been caught up working/school full time, well finally I've had the opportunity to sink some hard work into this bad boy so the correction went something like this..

Spent hours upon hours researching techniques and products
griots garage 5" backing plate, uber full set of pads all colors 5 (not used)
cyan hydro techs (cutting) x2 tangerine hydrotech pads polishing/aios x2
m105 m205 p085/sf4500 (not used)

note all pictures taken with iphone 4

quick wash..

claying

remove headlights tails spoiler tape emblems

pad prep..

m105 correction begins.. incredible improvement

side by side comparison taped off both sides clean / ipa wiped

awful m105 dusting

another side by side of just 105

pad failure

the cyans ripped apart while polishing, just exploded

ipa wipedowns

12 hours

sitting dirty after just 105, no editing, great improvement already..

day 2..

different location, foaming session, quick wash

remove heads tails spoiler etc again

break out m205

polish, polish, polish

ipa wipedowns

finish day 2 ending with completion of step 2 polish

day 3..

total ipa wipedown

hand apply black light entire car.. twice

hand apply jetseal109 entire car.. twice

buff to new level

drive vehicle and proceed to be rained upon..

some of the expenses..

Pictures, opinions, etc

mothers microfiber, wow! under rated, much better than my over priced cobras and better than some of the cg towels, this towel is great, if you want a sample of it pickup a mothers claybar kit

bluesmokesixxers freshly corrected gt rear bumper cover

check out some of the contamination taken off of just a section of this piece..

and another..

guess you could say that im sold on black tails.. courtesy of blues test fit! lol

how I keep track of my frog tape

midday day 2

foam down prep for m205 (day 2 / polish day)

wash

sampling m105 on relatives tahoe, they quickly learned its not as easy as it looks haha

little bit of pad cleaning, carpro paint cleaner.. yeah its not supposed to soften your clearcoat like apparently ipa will (which I used 70% 1:1) I used the paint cleaner, it acted pretty much the same, maybe a little less potent, way over priced its something like 1000x more expensive because I pickedup a couple 32 oz of ipa for cheap from wegmans, won't be buying paint cleaner again

bluesmokes pictures all of these are from day 1 / initial compounding (just 105)

Sorry I did not get any afters of these shots, at this point into the night it was time to get it done so picture taking lightened up.

This is a 50/50 of the initial correction of my new GT bumper cover after just M105:

Looks great man... Where did you get the pad that blew apart from?

Also, on your pad prep of M105 it looks like you used WAY to much. Thats why you got such bad dusting. M105 will dust, but that probally made it worse.

thanks man and yeah I'm sold on the tinted tails, if only the tint wasn't so pricey, i'd repsray your star fish wheels gloss black with chrome lugs and see if you like them better that way, try gloss black enamel from an autoparts store

autogeek hydrotechs, thats two different pads, both cyan cutting pads, won't be using those again granted I take some responsibility for it, they definitely went through a lot. how much less do you rec. then, I was under the impression that pad prep could/should be an X or an O

Hydrotech Cyans are known for not lasting very long compared to other pads and plenty of others have had them crumble like that. They are still an excellent pad though. They cut really well and finish down alot better then alot of the foam cutting pads out there. You might have been using to much pressure. I have been using hydrotechs for some time now and I have never burned through the backing like you did with that tangerine.
