2004 SVT Cobra Correction

This correction was done for the owner of the 2014 Shelby GT500 I did about a month and half ago. He just recently purchased this 2004 Cobra and wanted it corrected because it has 20k on the ODO. He wanted me to remove most of the defects from it so the paintwork would reflect the low milage it had. When I received it yesterday morning it seemed like it was in pretty decent shape. Yet as soon as I stripped whatever protection the previous owner had on it and brought it in under the halogens the defects really came out. I recently ordered some of the new redone Meguiars cutting discs from Phil so I decided to put them to the test with FG400. I did get micro marring on the finish not sure if it was due to my method since it was the first time I used microfiber pads or the clear on the Cobra. So I followed it up with PO85RD and some blue Uber and LC pads to clean the finish up. Not as many pics taken on this one that would have liked to capture since I was a bit busy this time, anyways on to the photos that I do have.

Micro marring is normal with the combo you had. Especially on Cobra's. Something about the paint and harshness of FG400. As long as you follow up with something like SF4500, it'll go away.

Looks good as always though!

Thanks everyone the owner was happy with it when he picked it up a few hours ago. He told me he has another Cobra for me to correct in about a month or two a 93 with only 900 miles on it.

As for FG400 and the Meguiars cutting discs I did find it to be quite annoying that it would finish down better. No matter whether if I would use speed 4, 5 or 6 on the LHR15ES marring was still there and thats that I do 4 to 5 passes per section. I also would brush and use compressed air after each section to clean the discs. Tomorrow if the owner of the M3 that was scheduled for me to correct drops it off I am going to test it out the same combination and see if marring still happens since I washed the cutting discs already. If that combination doesn't work Ill jump down to green Uber pads since its jet black and I am only doing a one step on it so I have to achieve good clarity.

Thats great work man. That micromarring is just gonna happen man, its hard to avoid using that aggressive of a combo on MF cutting pads. Especially on soft/dark colors. Most the time youre gonna polish anyway so its no biggy.

The BMW paint is gonna probably be like mush, i did a black 07 335i back in march and the paint was HARD to work with, just an IPA wipedown with MF would mar the finish, i had to rewash to remove polishing oils. On that M3 id try SF4000 on a Green pad first if you have some. Youll probably get a decent finish from PF2500 but still have a tiny bit of micromarring under the halogens. Just my .02 IME on jet black bimmer paint.

Great job on the cobra man.

Who else wants to be this guy with all the money and mustangs that danny is doing the work for? I know i do lol.

Thanks again everyone I'm glad you guys liked the write up even though I didn't get many after shots since it got late.

Modded I actually used FG400 with green ubers and hydrotech tangerine pads in certain areas. No marring was left on the M3, yet the entire body was refinished so that was the reason the finish wasn't as soft and I was able to use that combination I'll post the write up for that one soon

Ah i see. Yea if its a respray the odds are that its harder. Freakin OEM Bmw jet black sucks.

FG400 on green is a win, nice correction ability and great finish.

Im probably gonna order some more pads tonight, of the 6.25 inch variety.
