how to clean an egr valve?

anyone know how to clean one... mine is going bad im gonna try to clean it and if it doesn't work ill just replace it with the one i purchased today

my egr valve also went bad on my newer stang. but id rather get a new one..........................

Most of the time when EGR valves go bad it is because the diaphragm in it ruptures and it will not put a vaccum on it so it will not open, you cannot fix that. So unless it is stuck closed with carbon build up you will need an new one. If it is clogged with carbon you will need to either soak it in a product like seafoam to break down the carbon or if it is just a chunk of carbon you can see, you can get it out with a pick or screwdriver.
