want to use stock springs to want the 4500-6500 rpm range to pick up power mostly dont mind if i lose a little down low.
What options do i have?
If you also want a near stock idle quality without much lope and, at the same time, more power at higher rpm, the CompCams 127200 NSR cams will be tailor made for you.
With those cams plus a CAI, CMDPs, UDP, LT headers, offroad midpipe, and a tune, you could have 350+rwhp or 400hp at the crank.
No, and you don't need to change the stock valve springs either.
However the VSR 127300 cams do require a spring upgrade but not phaser limiters, while the Mutha Thumpr cams require phaser limiters but not a spring upgrade.
Hot rod cams and Detroit Rocker cams, like the 127200s, don't require a spring upgrade nor phaser limiters but they have a rougher idle and don't deliver the same HP gain.
My tuner (Bill Miller of Pro Edge Tuning) said that he loves the hot rods and that they actually are pretty good for boosted applications, my car made great power with the hod rods and 9psi of boost and meth. Made 526rwhp
Ok im having trouble finding some for a decent price 719 is the lowest ive seen.
Most of the popular 3v performance cams fall somewhere in the $700-800 range and depending on the mileage of your engine, it might be wise to replace the phasers plus the timing chains/tensioners at the same time. Some might even recommend replacing the roller finger followers but I'd check their condition first.
As for boosted applications, all the cams mentioned would do fine but ideally you'd want cams that have a wider lobe separation angle (less valve overlap) and a longer exhaust valve opening duration, so the 127200s come closest. The stock cams are also very good for boosted applications.
I've posted up plenty of info on the other cam thread on the front page, you could have just read that. Anyways, if your planning on doing boost sometime, don't get any of the idle sound cams. To maximize the gains from such a mild cam (NSR) you need to find one with the largest LSA with the longest duration as possible. Also you should get a blower specific grind, it will tend to have a little more exhaust duration relative to intake duration.
Cams should be one of the last mods you do as they can be pretty specific as far as where you want the power band and also what would be best for your set up. Cam choice should be specific to each build. Your not going to get the optimum response from folks on here.
