Lemkau77 | Yes I do, but I don't push my beliefs on anyone else. I also don't care what anyone else believes in or what they do with their lives. I'm probably not as traditional as some, and believe that the bible is more of a guide than something written in stone telling you that everything is 100% true and you must do everything just as it was written. |

Blackwid0wXR7 | No. I follow what is logical, and knowing the fact that I will never know what occured before my time with 100% accuracy, I don't really care. All I know is that I am here now, and I am going to live my life as humble as possible till I croak. What happens after that...happens, I'm not going to waste my sand worrying too much about it. |

My problem is they want us to believe it as truth. The problem as I see it is that they want us to believe it as the literal truth. There is a difference between religious truth and literal truth. The religious truth in the story is that God warned Noah of the flood. At great sacrifice Noah followed God's instructions and was able to save his family. The secular truth is that we should sacrifice immediate gratification to save for future hardships. The historical truth is that using a big boat a man was able to save his family and animals from a flood. |

My problem is they want us to believe it as truth. The issue is, we have people in positions of power over us (parents, priests/pastors) who have been told their whole lives that it's "THE TRUTH" and so it must be. Same thing for those who take things to extremes, and are taught something from early on. You need enough strength of will to realize that their "truth" may actually be missing the point the rest of their teachings are telling you. Whether it's Muslims who believe that everyone has to be muslim, has to have a beard, and wipe their ass with their bare left hand or Christians who believe that they are to treat everyone with love and respect except those damn dirty gays, they're missing the point. The point should be, be as good as you can be. Don't screw other people over, and be nice. |

The essence of the story (going back before its inclusion into the Jewish religion) is the story of a man who listens to God against the advice of his neighbors and prepares for a possible flood. By doing so he is able to save his family and his animals (very important in an agricultural society).
It's a teaching story. It doesn't matter if it was a worldwide flood or not. Noah became aware of a danger. He tried to tell his neighbors but they wouldn't listen. He made sacrifices to prepare for the danger and in doing so saved his family. This is a story that is relevant for the religious and non-religious alike. I buy earthquake and flood insurance even though we have a very low risk earthquakes and floods in my area. I don't spend every penny I make. I put something aside out of every check for a "rainy" day (pun intended). My problem is they want us to believe it as truth. |

But the massive size that the ark would have to be is beyond comprehension. Not to mention the fact that every air breathing animal on earth is now a product of incest. 2 doors and 1 window for ventilation, Heck most of them would die from carbon dioxide poisoning. Also the reasoning for the flood. Because the world had become riddled with sin. Well god sure didn't think to far ahead cause that sure didn't work out so well. Last thought about Noah's Ark, Do you realize the amount of Febreeze you would need on that damn thing. It would stink worse than the aftermath of eating Taco Bell for a week straight. "The REAL Truth About Religion And Its Origins" A lot of people seem to forget though that when we're talking about religion, all of the burden of proof falls upon those making the claim of a higher being and NO burden lies on those who do not believe in it. You can't prove something doesn't exist, you must prove that it does exist. It isn't my job as a non believer to disprove a deity but it's up to it's believers to beyond a shadow of a doubt show proof of the claim, and a book doesn't count otherwise I'm just as likely to believe middle earth is a real place. |
