Durr4456 Yeah I'll try and get one soon. It's at my college house and I'm at my parents for the summer (only an hour drive though). Probably go up there tomorrow.

Yeah but it would then go back to normal.

I did some research, and it seems to range from the battery (which I still doubt) to the instrument cluster. I am so close to just throwing in the towel.

07gtS197 The reason I ask is that when you try to start it with the clutch not all the way it it will act as though its dead then when you release the key it should calibrate all the gauges (needles will sweep). Im really lost with what yours is doing though.

Everything seems to be rock solid tight, nothing moving at all. I've double checked all the connections and can't find anything.

It's been in my garage for the past several months.

No, the cluster freaks the fuck still, continues to do so until I disconnect the battery. When I reconnect it, no matter the time between disconnect/reconnect, acts like it never happened.

I don't think it's the NSS as a result of that.

07gtS197 After you try to crank it and return it to acc does everything come back on? The part of your post about disconnecting the battery is a little confusing. If thats the case Id suspect the neutral safety switch or trans range sensor if auto. Has it rained between when you started tearing it down to the time you tried starting it?

nawagner Sounds like there is a bad connection somewhere. Make sure both cables are tight on the battery terminals and the terminals are really clean. Check any connection you messed with in the process. If the connections are not tight enough they will create problems like you mention as soon as you start pushing the high amps thorough them. Had a vehicle once that felt tight but as soon as it started pushing a whole lot of amps, the connection was just not good enough and would act like a dead battery even though the battery was fine.

BIGCHRISS197 I go through with a fine tooth comb and multimeter checking all your key on connections in the sjb. If everything checks out, id try jumping the starter.

Dang electrical gremlins

So, a while back my 3 valve started thinking to itself "Man, I wanna eat some spark plugs and ruin a phaser." So, it decided to do that. When I went to put the new phaser on, it didn't line up somehow and I decided to just take it apart and retime it. I figured better safe than sorry right?

Now, I've got everything buttoned up back together.

I went to hook the battery up and it was dead. Ok, no problem. Hooked up my trickle charger and let it sit overnight. This morning, charger says it's full/maintaining, sweet. Put the key in the ignition, press in the clutch, and again I get nothing. The battery gives power when the key is in the on position, radio plays fine, dash lights up perfectly. However, the moment I move the key to crank it, it just acts like it dies. Ok, maybe the battery is just toasted and ruined. I hooked it up to my honda just to see if it would (CCA was way lower on the honda) and just like that it cranked right up. So it's not the battery.

What I found interesting was, if I attempt to start it, it dies and such (loses power to the dash, everything freaks out, etc. If I disconnect the battery for a split second and then reconnect it, it acts like nothing ever happened. Until I try to start it again, then it simply freaks out as it has prior.

I checked the grounds on the front RH side, the one on the RH side of the engine, the RH strut tower side, and the ones in the trunk. All seemed perfectly fine. I didn't bother checking the ones in the dash as I didn't really go there at all, so nothing should have changed.

Starter connections look good and solid, don't see how that could've changed much in the few months it's sat parked in my garage.

Ideas would be awesome. Tips not only appreciated, but mandated. Thanks you lovely gents.


TLR my mother isn't proud of me, I keep trying though.
