Our insurance company is paying for the losses, and will probably sue the other company. The other company offered $1,100, and we'd have to get rid of the car. Our company is paying about what we have into the car, and they're picking it up tomorrow. So the car will be gone.
Still might play with the '84 convertible if I can find another Lima for cheap. We've got all the T5 swap stuff that never went into the 1987. I'd need better rear gearing though (originally 3.8/auto). I'd want to delete p/s and a/c, and then carb the 4cyl.

The two insurance companies are battling over who has to pay for it. The other person's company's adjuster came by today and said he could cut us a check for the car (not very much at all) and let us keep the car since it costs them more money to tow and discard it themselves. He's blocked until the companies decide who is paying for it.
I've got (actually in dad's name) an '84 convertible that was stripped down and had a race cage and sub frames put in. It was supposed to be a father/son project. If we end up keeping the car, I may resurrect that one as a rat rod using the running gear from this car. Might even cut the roof off and try to make a removable hard top. The rest of the parts would be sold to recoup my losses.

Insurance adjuster just left. He verified it's toast.
I don't think I'll ever get another one. The LTD is rusted to far. The 1984 convertible is toos tripped down for me to fix, and it's in dad's name.
I'll stick to trucks for a while. Tired of this flimsy, weak unibody stuff.

Update on some of the issues that have been found:
-Part of where the steering shaft is press fit together is coming apart. That's some of the steering looseness. Pulled a good one off the '84 convertible.
-The steering rack needs a rebuild. That should take care of the rest of the unresponsiveness.
-One drum brake was replaced, the other was grooved to hell. Still not getting much pressure back there. Going to pull the rear end from an LTD wagon (larger drums) and the master cylinder too.

I sold off my TC bellhousing with most of my 2.3T stuff. Wasn't having any luck finding the rest of the parts, or people wouldn't pull them for me after we agreed on a price for a bundle of parts. I also liked the cable clutch on the SVO better than the hydro clutch on the Ranger. Makes it easier, I think.
Dad has the entire interior stripped out of the car. It got wet inside. I could only find the one door seal leak. He seems to think water is coming in from every available spot. I told him to pull the fenders and check that the body seems haven't come apart. He's also taking the spare rear glass I have because the body shop that worked on the car scratched up the original. It won't have a defroster, but it'll be easier to tint. He's also finally gotten his all time favorite seats in a car. I'm trying to make sure all the interior gets back into the car. He's starting to try and justify not putting it back together, after I hunted down everything it needs and offered him parts off my other cars to finish restoring or upgrading it with factory parts. The hardest part will be tracing down the rest of the vacuum leaks and electrical issues. He thinks the battery was hooked up backwards at some point.

|h8louzn||That's not bad for the 5 speed stuff. I'm getting ready to do mine. I have the trans, flywheel , pedals for cable. But I'm looking for 87 88 tc pedals so I can use the bellhousing I have . I need my pick a part to get one in so I can get the wiring and interior pices plus crossmember.|

Another quick non-progress update.
I had promised a total cost at some point. I actually had to sit down and figure out what I have into the car, which was a little over $1,500. The car was bought for $1,400 and had $450 of tires put on it. So we're at $3,350.
The manual transmission related parts were $400. Don't know if that needs a rebuild or not yet, but if you want to add that all up we're at $3,750... with a good automatic transmission to sell and an extra drive shaft.

Small change in plans on the car... it's not really mine anymore.
Dad decided for sure that he wants the car. He got transfered where he works and drives 40 miles less per day, so he doesn't need something quite so reliable. He's going to buy me out of the parts I have in the car and build it the way he wants. I can take my 2000 Ranger back from him, and sell the 2001 for a little profit. Happiness all around.
Today I went to U-Pull-It looking for Ranger parts, and there were none. There was a 1991-93 Mustang hatch with a 2.3L/T5. I gave him a call and he drove down to help pull the transmission out. I grabbed everything I could think of that he'd need for the swap, pluss whatever other odds and ends I knew the car needed.
I'll still post whatever progress that happens on the car here. I can't guarantee any sort of rapidity on the rebuild. He wants to have the poor prior bodywork gone over by our bodyshop before he puts the interior back in. I'm pushing him to dye the interior the proper blue and go with some different head/tail lights. He's also going to keep the Prime wheels off the LTD wagon that I'm hopefully selling on Monday. Should be a cool car when it's done.

|quikstang2||Contacted SSBC (they make the brake kits on LMR) and the rear discs are from a 1987-88 Turbocoupe. I'm debating doing the fronts too since the lines are all shot. Pricey, but the car could use it.|

Warning: zombie thread.
Had to move all our stuff in storage back home. Found and set my 1983-84 hood bubble on the car, just to see what it would look like, and kind of fell in love with the car again.
Starting to think if I can get the electrical, rear brakes, cooling and interior issues sorted then I may keep it. Won't have tons of time to work on it, probably just Sundays. If I can get it good enough, I might flip the truck for some extra cash and start driving the car again.
Trying to remember/find what year GT seat frames that can be refitted with SVO foam and covers. Otherwise, some manual SN95 seats at the JY will be fine. Might see if I can find a blue PlastiDip to match the original blue interior instead of dying it. That plastic needs all the protective help it can get.

|quikstang2||Dad checked the relay today. Said it was butt spliced in and the wires had rotted. Tinkered with it and concluded that was the issue. All good on that part.|

I've forgotten where everything is on these cars.
Also saw some issues with the distributor, so I'll probably replace that as well. Becoming less and less worried about the condition of the interior.

It should be under your drivers seat...
Can also look at pin 22 (IIRC) on the ecu, which triggers the relay...

|quikstang2||Dad tried to fire up the car over the weekend and said the fuel pump wouldn't run. Fuse was good. Where's the fuel pump relay on these things?|

Haven't been around in a while. I've been working on the replacement Ranger I got. Sold off the vast majority of my 2.3/2.3T parts last night to a couple that has three Xr4tis between them. I only kept the SVO turbo and header that I got with the blue coupe. Don't know what I want to do with that yet.
Dad and I sat there talking to the buyers for a while and a friend of theirs has a long tube header and side draft Webers as well as the intake for a 2.3L. Dad keeps asking me about things on the coupe. I don't know why because he'll never do anything to it, but if he buys it off me for what I have in it then I don't really care. I told him what all it needs. Mom will be pissed, but she'd complain about the car being bought for the rest of our lives anyways. So we'll see what happens with the little blue turd.
