Windstar help needed

Ok Im completely stuck. So far Ive spent probably 18 hours on what was supposto be a simple upper and lower swap. Yeah fat chance for being simple. Anyway I got the lower on and have the windstar in place (but not bolted down incase I screwed something up and have to take it back off) Which I realized I did screw something up already but havent fixed that yet.

I feel like an idiot. I labeled (almost) every hose and connection on both sides thinking "Ill just match them up and be good to go." Yeah right. I have no clue what Im doing at this point. I NEED the car running by friday afternoon so I can go to work saturday and Im getting nowhere at all at this point. Ive literally accomplished nothing in the last few hours. I tried looking at Slonisons diagrams but it makes it look like every hose and wire needs to be extended, which is probably because Im angry and blinded by stupid at this point.

If you could tell me what the taped and colored hoses/connections go where and in what image that would be just fantastic. Example: Light blue hose in picture 1 goes to the orange connection in picture 3, just to keep it simple.

Reps for everyone who helps.

This is what I have to work with materials wise:

You deleted EGR, correct?

GreenShift September 5th, 2012 12:26 PM

No but Im getting rreeaallll close to doing so at this point and saying fuck you to emissions.

Okay. The way it looks to me, yellow square in the last pic can be capped. The hose on the brake booster should just go right back in to the valve cover. The intake hose labeled in the third pic should be extended to one of the bungs on the intake, the air intake itself, not the manifold. The other bung on the air intake I think can be capped because our cars only have one hose into the intake. I'll keep looking to see if I can find more that needs to be done, but for now that's all i see.

Brake booster into the valve cover? It was connected to the stock manifold before, thats the PCV that goes into the valve cover

I was thinking the blue hose in the last picture was going to go to the green bung because its length fits perfectly but didnt know for sure..

Edit: I think Im just going to delete the PCV. Theres the nastiest tar-like stuff in the lower intake I took off and I dont want any more of that shit in the new ported one.

My bad on the brake booster lol, trying to go off memory here and now that I think about it that doesn't make sense at all. Slonison has a thread about his swap with some pictures that might help, if you haven't already looked at those.

Not sure on the blue hose to the intake, I was looking at that and it'd make some sense but i'm not 100%.
I'm pretty sure slonison deleted his PCV with some breather filters

Hopefully someone who has done this will chime in.

I hope you post a full review in the projects section about this, I'm interested to see how difficult it really is

I did it on my 04 when I had it. Finished the whole thing in a few hours. I will see if I still have all of the stuff I used for reference to put it together in a few when I get to my computer. Its realy not that hard, just a little confusing at first.

:banghead <-- This is my current review on it. But a lot of the difficulty and time was dealing with the lower intake. Now I just need to know what plugs into where which wouldnt be hard if I knew what everything was lol

Ill be gone from approximately 1:30pm - 6pm EST so I wont be replying during that time. I should have posted this last night to be honest but I didnt think about it.

Also in the last picture the yellow bit wont reach or fit onto the red connection on the EGR so thats not it.

Not shown in the pictures (except a little bit in the 4th) I have a thin 1/4" (I think) hose fed underneath the intake that goes to the IAC but it doesnt fit onto the IAC so...No idea there. Mr. Red Pony made the kit for me, I texted him but I would assume hes at work so he should hopefully clear all this up. But I figured the more the merrier lol The throttle cable bracket doesnt seem to fit either. I think I have to bend the stock bracket to fit onto the one he made but Im not sure and dont want to bend it until I am

1) Brake booster into one of the red squared ports in the windstar.

2) IAC, one goes into the intake pipe and one goes into the upper intake(hopefully you drilled a hole underneath around the throttle body in the upper intake.)

3) Hose from driver side valve cover goes into green squared port on windstar upper.

4) Hose from passenger side valve cover goes into intake pipe

5) Hose from the "t" on passenger side goes into other green squared port on windstar upper.

6)EVAP hose goes into the top port on the windstar intake.

As for the EGR, I'm not sure how to configure it since I have a 2000. But, I kept it looking as it does stock and I used a t connecter to mate the hose from the fuel rail to the egr hose and also used a t connecter to mate it with the hose from #5.

Here's some pics of mine, hope it helps.

1) Done
2) Yep theres a little bung facing upwards right behind the TB on the windstar
3) Ill bend it and make it fit until I get breather filters
4) Gonna need more hose...
5) Its not long enough, Looks like a plastic tube in there, dont think Danny gave me any plastic hose
6) Not sure which one the EVAP is? Or which port youre talking about

dGrabber September 5th, 2012 01:38 PM

The green shorter hose from the black egr component goes on the egr valve, the longer red hose is what I t'ed with the hose from the fuel rail. then t'ed it to the tiny hose from the passenger side and use a small hose to connect it to the windstar via the small inlet by where the brake booster hose went.

EVAP is the hose that comes out on the passenger side. If you touch it, it'll dirty your hands.lol The blue hose on the top in my pics.

I had to drill underneath my upper right behind the TB and fit a bung for my IAC port. The little blue thing inside my intake in my last pic.

GreenShift September 5th, 2012 02:43 PM

Grabber youre fantastic. OK I got most of it situated.

What I have left open is:

In the third picture the blue outlined hose, and the thin plastic tubing that has the T, I know where it goes now I just need some way to merge that with a bit of plastic hose. Ill stop and pick something up at autozone or lowes or whatever.

In the fourth picture just the green port, the stock tube that runs from the valve cover to that is plastic and doesnt bend to reach it and it doesnt fit anyway.

In the last picture just the yellow bit. It starts at the TB area and goes to the IAC but has that T in it which I dont know what to do with.

Then I just have to extend some plug that goes to the IAC, get some kind of double sided bung (:shiftyeyes) and a piece of tubing to go to that evap port, bolt down the windstar and figure out how the throttle cable and air filter fit on lol

Also in the first picture: Does anyone know what those pink things are? Theyre plastic with a bit of metal in the middle, I thought they were for joining wires but If they are I dont know how to work them. And whats that L shaped rubber bit just below them?

Skargon September 5th, 2012 03:44 PM

Does anyone know the HP/TQ gains from the Windstar?

Is it really noticeable?

GreenShift September 5th, 2012 04:25 PM

7hp 15 Ftlb tq, thats peak though, supposedly the key part is that it increases the area under the curve a pretty significant amount.

03 cristian September 5th, 2012 04:40 PM

Slonison where the heck are you

03cristian

FLEX4.6 September 5th, 2012 04:41 PM

It is not a crazy gain, but yes it picks up a little to the butt dyno. Just the awsome look that it gives the engine bay is worth it.

And looks pretty damn sweet

dGrabber September 5th, 2012 05:06 PM

I think it's worth it. Just that after doing it, if you go forced induction, your only options are centrifugal supercharger or turbo since you won't wanna reverse all the modifications for it.
