What are the stickiest, street legal tires that will fit safely on a 16x7 wheel?

At some point, I'll get another set of 15" wheels with bigger tires, maybe 15x9's with 275/50's, but not this year. For now I want something stickier than my 225/50/16 street radials. I like the 255 ET street radials, but don't think they'll fit safely. I know it's no very wide, but does anyone make a sticky 225/50/16?

Dam! no sticky street/strip (90% street, 10% strip) tires made for a 16x7 wheel??

I've checked throughout the web. The closest I've found were some Hankook tires who's tread resembled a DR. So, I gotta spin like a mofo until I can get the wider 15's? That sucks!:(

Nitto 555R Drag radial 245/50/16
Good tire? I've seen a few of them run on other peoples cars locally and the owners did not seem impressed (or they were making excuses for crappy suspension). I was looking at the NT05R (different from the NT05) and the BFG. Both are them are the same price and the 555R is about $40 cheaper (275/40/17). hmmm..

I had a set of 555R on my 98 camaro SS boltons, 3.73 gears, Yank ST3500 converter, ect. and they hooked good at first. Pulled some good 60's too. But they were only that good for about 5000miles of hard driving. After that they took a stupid big burnout to get them to hook hard. I drove on them everyday for about 15000 miles, rain or snow and then they were shot.

I just put a set of Nitto 555's more streetable than the 555R's. Sticky tires, but every road I drive down sounds like a gravel road! They pick up everything.

Hoosier QTP's are nice tires, but mine being mostly street driven, I'm looking for something like an ET street radial (dam I wish they made an ET in a 225 50 16!!). 245 is kind of wide for a 16x7, would be perfect if I had a 16x8 tho. I hear Nitto doesn't make a 555r in 225 anymore, just 255. Any other suggestions on a 225?

Mickey Thompson ET Streets, bias plys... 26x10.5x16. Running them on my pony wheels and they dead hook on the strip. They are street legal as well, just won't last long being bias ply. I bought them slightly used and was a great buy. Stuck a 4k launch with no wheel spin.
