So if I'm using a wood block on the pinch welds there should I cut it to fit in that square hole in the plastic molding piece or just kinda sit a piece of wood on my jack stand/jack? Any pictures of this method in practice?

You will be fine putting a block of wood on your jack, and placing it on the pinch weld.

If you want to take the time to cut it to fit, that's your call. But it is not mandatory.
