2011 Mustang GT 5.0 !!!

The 2011 Mustang GT is getting the 5.0 Treatment!!!. The new 5.0 is just like the old 5.0 -- 302 cubic inches or 4.9-liters or 4,951cc.

Adding the 32-valves and Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing(Ti-VCT), the new 5.0 produces an impressive 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. No word on performance times, but we can expect a 4.5-4.7 second 0-60 sprint and a quarter-mile in the high 12s. At least. Especially as the current Mustang GT (315-hp, 320 lb-ft of torque) hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and runs the quarter in 13.5. Oh, according to Ford, the new 5.0 weighs just 10 pounds more than the outgoing GT!

Oh: more importantly, the redline climbs from 6,500 to 7,000 rpm.

Awesome.:D

Also new for 2011 Mustang is a choice of either a new six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. Together with that variable cam technology (Ti-VCT) and "EPAS" (Ford's electronic power steering), a Mustang GTwith an automatic transmission will be able to achieve 25 mpg on the highway. That's up from 23 mpg for the current Mustang GT with an auto 'box. Both the 2010 and 2011 get 17 mpg in the city, while the six-speed manual Mustang gets 24 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg city.

I honestly love how FORD is increasing the HP ratings for the Mustangs as the years go by!

But I have a question: How High can we go?

To hell with N/A. An aluminum DOHC 5.0 with forged internals, boost that bitch and Throw down 650+.
11:1 CR is not very boost friendly. :sorry
i think my zipper just popped off my pants:eek:
lol :D

man i would do things to that car, the Animal Planet wouldnt film! :love
Really want one!! Trying to hold out to get a 2014, hopefully it'll still be an option (or even better then!!).
That's nice and all, but all this extra factory horsepower just makes me have to spend more money to keep up.
Do want! I'd like to swap the motor/trans in my GT as well. :yes

thats what im thinking
My 2 Cents:)

Looking that the numbers yes the 5.0 on paper is great and I am sure it will be another excellent engine from Ford. The things to take in to account arent just the fact that the HP is up so much. The torque on the 2005-2010 Mustangs is higher than the HP at 315HP/325TQ (only 65 ft lbs from the 5.0) for the Bullitt and 2010 GT. The 4.6 is a pretty proven engine and has come a VERY long way since the 96 GT. The new 5.0 has a MUCH higher compression ratio and is a much more tuned 412HP/390TQ. Now having worked with engines for a while and having built a few. The thing that is most obvious is the HP to torque ratio of the new engine. Dont get me wrong these 5.0's are going to scream and be an awesome power plant for the Mustang. The thing that has me concerned is that with this engine the modability (if thats a word) is going to be a little more limited than the 4.6. They achieved the 412 HP by timing this engine very tight with a very high compression ratio all to ensure that they were able to reach the MPG that they wanted to boast for people to be more interested in these performance cars. The engine wasnt just an effort to compete with the Camaro it was an effort to reduce emmissions and meet the fuel effeciency demand of the EPA. I thought long and hard about buying my 2010 over the 2011 and the main reason I went with the 2010 was the track record of the 4.6. The 4.6 has evolved over 15 years and has alot of great history behind it. Not to mention the 4.6 was designed as a almost perfectly square engine. It may get less MPG and be a good bit less horse power but in the end the seat of the pants factor the the daily driver with only 65 ft lbs of torque will be almost un noticeable unless you line these cars up and race them. But lets be honest who buys a V8 Mustang to get Honda level MPG?

My 2 cents here would be if you want to wait for the 5.0 wait till 2012. If not jump on one of these awesome deals on the 2010's before they are gone. With the money you could save you could do a whole lot more modding to your Mustang and personalize it.

Just ask anyone who bought a 1996 GT with the "new" 4.6 if he wishes he had waited a few years for it to be a bit more refined. Dont let all the hype and media get the best of you. If you want to spend your money on something that is 30k plus and will smoke my 4.6 or the 5.0 go grab a used GT500 and smoke them both. The engines will always be changing and the 2011 will be out done in time by the factory modifications to the 5.0. In a couple of years the new platform could be putting out over 450HP from the factory naturally aspirated.

:) I'd rather have a GT500 over the GT, but still... a stock GT at 412. Hard to beat.

By the way, my old boosted Integra got 17mpg. :p
412 is VERY hard to beat. I am just suggesting that for modification purposes that the 4.6 is a bit better. With 11:1 dynamic compression this engine will be tough to modify. I would go out on a limb and say that the cylinder pressure from the factory on the 5.0 could possibly be around 180PSI. Using a blower on that could make things go boom quick if too much boost is added. Now as far as out of the box the 5.0 kicks arse on the 4.6. Personally I will wait even the first 4.6 had its bugs and these things are most of the time ironed out by trial and error. In a year or two they will have had alot of the bugs come back on warranty and the design team will have had a chance to work those things out of the 5.0. Ford just like any other large company will not recall these things unless they pose a safety threat or a blatent failure in the product across the board. On the other hand I will be going to test drive one asap, I want to see how this engine drives.

Haha now please tell me that you didnt have the kazoo exhaust on that Integra...

It has gone 12.30`s @113 with nothing but slicks on it...
little suspenision, wieght loss, and maybe some boost for good measure and the new 5.0s are 10 second rides
If it is a 10 second engine (with a few mods) in the Mustang I am hoping that they keep the engine as a Mustang only platform. Instead of putting it in everything that Ford makes. Even making it a different size for trucks and such would be better than plastering it in everything they offer a V8 in. Thats just my opinion. It would make the Mustang a much more unique ride.
i agree. supposedly (according to 5.0 mag) the engine was designed specifically for the stang
I am sound with my decision to get the 2010 4.6L GT at a very reduced price brand new. Keeping up with the Jones's can be a VERY expensive game and the 2011 5.0 will very unlikely resemble what they do with it for the 2014 Mustang. On another note though I am an enthusiast of the mustang across the board and would love to see the mustang gain the prestige of a "mustang" engine and platform at which everyone knows that it is the mark of performance for the Mustang. This 5.0 could not only give the Mustang what it needs to be a bad ass but also the key to breaking the mold on cookie cutter drivetrains.
I wonder where the Mustang will be in 2020
