I'm tired of replacing my DR's every year so I'm looking for a new street tire. I've decided that the Nitto 285/40/18 would work best for me but can't decide what size rim would be best for it, 18x9 or 18x10. Anyone have pics with the 285/40/18 555 on 18x9 or 18x10. Please be specific on what size rim you have. Thanks!

**Please keep this in the 05-09 section as this tire size is use more often on the 05 and newer mustangs**

i had 18x9.5 wheels with those, but now have 295/35's on them. the 295's of course look better, but the 285's handled better because they were a better fitment for the size of wheel.

iirc these were the 285's. sorry i don't have another pic.

Yeah I was thinking about going with the 295/35/18's but I'm trying to find something that will match the sidewall height of the fronts (255/45/17) and also want something a little taller to help water down my gears.
That is a small pic but it's better then nothing. Thanks!

I would definitely stagger it but don't put any thing over a 275/45 on a 9" rim. Ever.

Why 40... because I want a taller, thicker tire. Nitto's run narrow, that's why I'm thinking about going with a 18x9. That's also why I'm asking for pics, so I can see for myself which one like better.

I say 10" wheel.. They will fit on a 18x9 or 9.5, but they will fit better on a 18x10.
fit better how? I don't like the stretched look. I'd rather it budge then stretch.

I'm running the Nitto 555r's on some 18x10 rims, nice fit. no pics right now.
are you running 285/40/18's? do they budge, stretch, flush?

Yes running 285/40/18 on some 18x10 rims, I find they are a perfect fit, pretty much flush fit.

were i to have had the option for a 18x10 in the wheels i got i would keep the 295 next time i buy wheels, but would find a different tire that would be taller. i'd like to have a 27-28" tall tire instead of the 26" tall i have now.

That's the problem I'm having.... I'm looking for a nice street tire that's about 27" tall. That's why I want to get the 284/40/18. I wish I could find something a little wider that would still work for me and at still be at a decent price. If I found a 305/35/18 or 315/35/18 in a street tire I'd get that but the only ones I found in those sizes are either DR's or really expensive.

A 40 being too thick? thats an overstatement. 285/40 are not that thick, they are a bitch to mount on a rim because they are almost a low profile tire. I run 285/40/18 GT500 tires on my 18x10s

Sorry these aren't Nitto, but probably the best handling tire I have felt on any one of my vehicles... I'd say they sh*t on the Nitto on the twisties. Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar. 275-40-18 on 18x9.5 Steeda Ultra-Lite (Up front)
