I recently found a set of ford racing ring gear and pinion set that I got really cheap. I was wondering if anyone else uses the 3:27 ratio and how much difference they will make from stick 2:93. Also wondering if anyone knows of a good shop to install them in the Lexington KY area? Or any suggestions at all on installation or maybe even a site tutorial of an 8.8 rear gear install.

there will be slight improvement, and not a lot a change in gas mileage, i would go with a 3.73 good all around gear.

u don't have 2.93's, u have 2.73, 3.08s, or even 3.27's already.

u won't feel that big of a difference jumping from 2.73 to 3.27s. Well, u'll feel something, but just not that much. 3.27's are what they put in the 99-04 cars stock, and now i believe there 3.31 with a 3.55 option.

You are correct, I think that I already knew that. Guess I just mistyped or was misthinking at the time.

if your car is an automatic you already have 3.27s but if its a 5 speed you most likely have 2.73s.

My last car was an 88 gt with a 5 speed and 3.73s. I got around 20-22 average. My current car, a 95 GT convertible has 3.73s and an auto tranny and I average about 15-17.

Ford Motor Company produced the five speed cars with 3.08 and auto cars with 2.73. Sorry to correct anybody. Hope this helps.

Thats funny cuz my 5 speed had 2.73s in it stock. now I have the 3.73s. ditch the 3.27s and get 3.73s for a 5 speed and 4.10s for an automatic. thats the rule of thumb and enjoy that extra acceleration!

Seems that they do because mine had a 2.73 stock (41 teeth on ring gear, 15 teeth on pinion). I swapped in a 3.73 (41 teeth on ring gear, 11 teeth on pinion) and my Stang became a totally different animal. Probably the best mod I did and gas mileage barely changed. Also changed the stock brown 18 tooth speedo gear to a black 23 tooth gear for my automatic.

Maybe someone here knows why Ford would put a 2.73 in some '95 automatics and a 3.27 in others.
