Hey guys,

switching to an 8 rib setup but looking for some advice. Below is a link to all the parts via UnixHH from here.

also there are links for everything listed.

Alternator pulley GP-720
Power steering pulley XL3Z-3A733-AA
A/C Clutch pulley YB-522
Tensioner 1L3Z-6B209-AA
Idler pulley YS-250
Water pump pulley F6TZ-8509-AA
+ 8 Rib 3.12" Vortech Pulley

My question is; i've read that you do NOT need the water pump pulley b/c its wide enough for the 8 rib. any confirmation on this?

Also, i linked (from rock auto) 2003 FORD F-150 5.4L V8 Supercharged A/C Bypass Pulley b/c i have the a/c delete on my car. i just am going to use the pulley, not the bracket.

Filman, I've been putting together the parts for an 8 rib conversion, below are my notes on what I ended up with:

4.6L 8-Rib Conversion Pulleys
ALTERNATOR PULLEY Motorcraft GP720 (F65Z10344AA) 1997 F-150 w/5.4L, 110amp alternator $20.84

POWER STEERING pulley XL3Z-3A733-AA {#2L3Z3A733AB, 5L3Z3A733A} $12.64 (Dorman 300-006 is a replacement for this part, Steel; O.D.; 5-5/8"; Width: 1-3/8"; Belt Type: Serpentine; ID: 0.626") 1997 F-150 w/5.4L

A/C PULLEY. Current pulley is 4.5" diam. Most use Motorcraft YB522 (F6TH19D784AA, F6TZ19D784A, 5-1/4" diam) $71.48 cost more, listed for 2007 F-250 truck.
Some use Motorcraft YB542 F7UZ-19D784-AA, 4.5" diameter, listed for 2005 and earlier trucks (ie 2001 E-150 Econoline Club Wagon, 281) available on Amazon $49. (went with this one).
The link below claims the YB522 is 5-1/4" diam, YB542 is 4-1/2".
f150 crank pulley (8 rib setup) - MustangForums.com

A/C DELETE
Dorman 6 rib part for 99-04 Mustangs is 34191, has 4-1/2" pulley.

Dorman 34189 is for 1997-2003 Ford truck 5.4/6.8L, 8 rib but bracket is slightly larger and doesn't fit my 4.6 motor but pulley diameter is same as 4.6 one and mounts with the correct offset, using it on 34191 bracket.

TENSIONER - most say to use Motorcraft BT-62 but bolt holes are wrong for 99 Mustang cover, they are for Explorer engine covers.

BT-47 is the 6 rib 99 3 bolt 99 Mustang tensioner. The 6 rib pulley has its edge ~ .125" above cover. The BT-62 8 rib pulley fits on this tensioner and with .125" spacers under bolt holes gives the same .125" clearance to cover.

STEEL BODY TENSIONER tensioner, 6 rib, no longer available: XR3Z-6B209-DB
Another steel tensioner, has correct mounting holes: F8ZE-6B209-BB , F8ZE-6B209-BA is another number.

TENSIONER SUPPORTS
These guys sell a support. They claim the tensioner pulley tends to move forward under load, this plate with a delrin backing prevents that.
Tensioner Support Plate, 2005 and Newer Ford Mustang: Metco Motorsports

IDLER PULLEY, SMOOTH - with the 3 bolt KB belt routing only one smooth idler pulley is required. The 8 rib truck Motorcraft YS250 appears like its diameter is larger and may not clear KB bracket, likely using another BT-62 tensioner pulley will work.

WATER PUMP PULLEY - F6TZ-8509-AA $21.17 on Amazon 1997 F-150 w/5.4L - this pulley has a flat front surface and appears to be for the longer '99 PW-470 water pump not my current shorter Motorcraft PW-464 pump.
PW-470 pump is over $100., might as well get Stewart/EMP pump, STE50046L $119. at Summit.

BALANCER
Damper XL3Z-6312-CA 97 F150 5.4L, 7.3lbs (F75Z-6312-AC, XL1Z-6312-DA, note - doesn't appear available from Ford using those numbers.

Rockauto lists Dayco/Powerbond PB1493N as a "premium replacement" for $120. O'Reilly has Powerbond PB1493N for $52.

Dorman’s Harmonic Balancer Puller 594-999

Lisle 39000 is listed in Rockauto as a puller for the power steering pulley, claims to also do alt pulleys.

OTC 4530 set is cheaper and claims to work on 4.6 engines "Fits pulley hubs with diameters of 1-1/8 inch , 1-1/4 inch , 1-5/16 inch and 1-3/8 inch". Amazon review are pretty good and appears to work on fords.

You're going to need spacers as well -to either space out the bracket or space out the head unit. I am a proponent of the latter.

Wish I had known that about the AC pulley. I never found a larger one so I machined a complete AC pulley from scratch lmao. I made mine 5.4" though which is the absolute biggest I could fit... Helped tremendously with my AC after I installed the OD crank pulley
