Stumbled across this air filter test today and figured many would find it useful on this site. I have read many air filter debates and this test provides some good answers.

Long story short, I am going back to Motorcraft paper and ditching the K&N. I was surprised how little the difference in flow is. Not worth the extra dirt I always knew high flow filters let in your engine.

Filtration Testing for Amsoil, K&N, Napa, Jackson Racing, Baldwin, and Mazda air filters on a Miata

Make sure to check out both the filtering and flow portions of the test.

That was done sometime back, and is still as valid as it was then...

Here, from the same time period as that test, is my opinion of K&N filters.

FWIW my engine, with modest bolt-ons and a tweaked tune, puts down 262/305 rwHP/torque--with a stock intake and a Purolator paper filter...

K&N filters are junk. The only high flow filters that actually filter air are the Amsoil filters. But they aren't cheap.
I had a k&n in my mustang until I had a uoa done. There was sand in my oil(silica). So much that the oil was beyond condemnation levels. Equal to 400 grit flowing around inside the engine.
