Sounds like the type of gas imo. Keep us posted to see if the Brenspeed tune makes a difference. I know the AM tunes are the same program as SCT though.

most tuners add their own flavor to the tunes. Using SCT value files is asking for trouble.

Where should I go from here?
If multiple well know tuners cause detonation on your car then the problem is probably your car. Maybe some carbon deposits on the valves? Do you drive the piss out of it on a regular basis? Do you have the right plugs in there?

$75 more dollars down the drain.. the Brenspeed tune came today, and my car is still pinging.

I don't know what to do. I suppose I'll email Brenspeed and see if they can adjust it, but I'm not sure if that'll help.

Where should I go from here?
See the guy who posted above me, you should have spent your money with him. Anybody who can put up with tuning MY car over email can put up with anything.

its is a timing on the email tune, try vmp they are truly the best i know i had a custum tune from somebody in my town and i had the same problem but only when it was under load like on the hills or when i had my heavy 20'' rims on my car that how i know they din't do a good job on the timing. i order a custum tune from vmp and problems gone. by the way i have the same mods you have but the only diference is i got a 93 octane tune.

Interesting. Maybe I should have gone with a different company... I'm kind of disappointed, I've heard nothing but good things about Brenspeed.

I shot them email about the issue, we'll see if they make it right. I'm almost positive it's the tuner though, my car is in good shape and I'm using the right gasoline.

btw, Merry Christmas everyone :)

I spoke with Dave at Brenspeed, and he said "...some V6 cars simply do not like timing because of the load on the engine".

Basically, he said that pulling any more timing off would eliminate the pinging (I pulled 4 deg. off and almost eliminated it), but he said at that point it would be around stock timing. As in, this tuner has been one big waste of time and money for me.

So if there's any v6 owners out there that just can't figure out why their custom tunes aren't working (but your car works fine stock), maybe your car just doesn't like to have it's timing messed with.

I am having the same problems as well..Just uploaded my custom tuned for 93 octane..submitted all the proper parts (intake, exhaust, etc.) to AM and my car is pinging under throttle from a cruise and gets noticeably worse under harder acceleration. Ive tried strategy tuning retarding the spark timing and richening the fuel mixture but I still have the pinging. I revert back to stock tune and it runs absolutely fine no pinging at all even though its tuned to 87 with 93 still in the tank. I have no clue what to do. I guess I might have a bad tune sent from AM, not sure what else other options I have.

Hey guys! I also have the same problem as well. I just received my SCT Tuner in the mail yesterday, and I added the 87 strategy tune (everything else as is) and I am hearing pinging noises. I did had a little bit of 89 in the tank when I tuned the car, but then I filled up the car the next day with 87 (along with SeaFoam) to help with the pinging, but no good. Reading these past postings it seems that no one had find a solution for the problem unless a good custom tune was added. Can anyone recommend the BEST custom tune company right now? I will add back my stock tune until I find the good solid custom tune. No sense in harming my baby.

Im using a 87 tune from Ortiz and my car is running great. I also know that justin at vmp is good too. Have you checked your plugs and wires recently? fuel filter?

Yes, actually they are all recently new. Like only 2 month new. I converted the tune back to stock and everything is fine. I talked to another guy that ran the 87 preloaded tune (and he have added mods), and he did not get any pinging sound. So, I'm leaning more towards the bad tune. I emailed VMP and hopefully sometime next week they can get in touch with me to see what they can do. :)
