Lol, it's people saying things like that that make we want to do it :p Well, that and it's cheap, light, small, makes a lot of power while getting pretty damn good mileage, and I can do it legally in CA. There's no Ford motor that would swap in any easier nor cheaper that would give those same benefits.

At a standstill. Didn't touch the car today. Carb had supposedly been rebuilt. Now it has all new float **** again. Idk what else to do

Was just suggested that I try putting an air cleaner up on top of it to give it a little backpressure. Guy said his '52 does the same thing if he lets it sit, and this thing has been sitting...says carb may just need to be 'broken in', per se. :dunno

WTF does that even mean, to "break in" a used carb? The only thing I could think of is if a carb's been sitting for long enough, some of the gas inside could have varnished, but if it's been rebuilt, it should have been soaked in carb cleaner long enough to dissolve any accumulated crap.

Dunno, man, almost sounds to me like you just need to bite the bullet and rebuild it yourself so you know it's done correctly.

Went through your thread arummel. I love this thing its ugly but sweet at the same time.

You get the carb figured out? If not, pull it off and rebuild it or get a performance one. Between a sticking float, gummed up jets or some other weird issue due tonight sitting forever and the old gas gelling up you may forever have funky issues like this. Carbs are like women, they want everything just right, but once dialed in correctly they will purr like a kitten.

Edit: yes, follow what RevDex says and get a vacuum gauge. Its helpful on a carb motor, its like an old school tune.

As in it's been sitting for years rotting out. He's thinking I just need to heat it up, get the juices flowing, and see what happens. Sounds like BS to me but he's an old school carb guy and I'm an old school EFI guy. He also bet me $20 it'd work :lol

Just loaded it up on a trailer and got it out of the building and on its way to the storage unit about 10min ago. Can't wait to get this old girl running. Need to add the seat movement latch to the list of things to get fixed. Imagine a water bed, but it's a bench seat :lol

Did you measure the float height? Is it right? Still sounds like a float issue to me. also the float can get gas in it if cracked and won't float.

Float height is adjusted to 7/32", right where its supposed to be.

Bottle fed the Ranchero and got it running last night. Drove it around the storage facility, verified that it is indeed capable of a burnout, and backed it into the storage unit under its own power. It'll still push fuel out the top of the carb if I give it enough fuel to suck in though. Getting closer! Need to bleed brakes, put a gas tank in it, fix the seat latch, and figure out the carb. Should be good to go after that!
