Get a 96+ engine, trans, ecu, wire harness, sensors, etc and you should be good to go

The only OBD2 5.0s out there used a crank triggered distributorless ignition, so you're not going to have an OBD2 factory ECU that would just plug into factory Fox-body wiring. However, this does theoretically mean a '96-up 5.0 Explorer manual transmission ECU could work if you swapped over the Explorer wiring harness, ignition, and any sensors that are different, including downstream O2 sensors. OBD2 needed considerably more sensors than OBD1.

OBD1 Ford ECUs don't stream data, so a converter cable with your stock ECU's not an option, either.

I believe someone's working on an iPhone gauges app for MegaSquirt, and there is a conversion harness to plug the MegaSquirt into your Mustang available.
