I know the new 5.0 have provisions in the heads but has anyone attempted to machine and use them?

Or is everyone waiting for ford to take the first step with the 2015 5.0?

Direct injection with e85 :naughty: that would be trick.

I don't think direct injection is at a DIY state just yet.

I'd love to be proven wrong about that, though.

Sure it is, just turn it into a mechanical diesel. :bubba:

While completely possible, it would be obscenely expensive and difficult. You'd have to source injectors, machine it correctly, and then tune it correctly. Not exactly a piece of cake.

Though I imagine quite a bit of information could be gained from the EcoBoost platform.

Actually, Ford had a hand in designing the Mazdaspeed 3 motor and that is DI so, that's their first non-diesel DI, afaik.

This technology is beyond the shadetree just yet. Too much custom machine work and sourcing insanely expensive parts and tools.

Actually, actually, the Focus 2.0 engine has been DI since 2011. Even with a non turbo application. And I believe the Mazda engine is based (or is) on the same engine.
