both cars would be about the same, a v8 car would be easier to get started in because you can jump right into doing the suspension not doing the engine and suspension
4 banger front suspension is a little different as well.. I'd find a roller v8 hatch car. I say hatch because it'll cost you less then trying to scoop up a v8 notch roller and your going to do all the bracing anyways so the little bit stronger coupe chassis advantage goes out the window right there thus not worth the extra money in my mind.
I would think a fox would meet your goals without breaking the bank I mean in any other aspect a fox is one of the simplest and cost effective cars out there to modify.
the would be pretty cool. ive always wanted a drift car.
