25.4 mm to an inch. aka 254 mm tire would be ten inches wide. 275 is closer to ten inches in reality. I ran 275 MT drag radials on 10" wheels.

Short answer no you need about a 10.5 inch rim to fit a 315 tire. Largest wheel I would put on a 9" wheel would be 275. on an 8" wheel 255. thre is to many saftey issues when dealing with tires make sure you follow these manufacteres guidelines.

I had 275's on stock 17x8's. I never had a problem with them but they did bulge a little.
