When I am coming to a stop, (already out of gear) as the engine approaches 1,000 rpm, just as it gets there or a little before sometimes there is a little click that comes from the engine and the RPM's go up a couple hundred then fall back down.

Also, when I come to a stop every time, the RPM's hover at 1,000 for a second, then fall to 700-800ish. (I think this is normal but just wanted to check)

Are these behaviors normal? What causes it? Anything to worry about? I'm more confused about the first one as I'm not sure what the tick is that causes the slight rev.

I think the click is the A/C engaging....when mine engages my RPMs surge.

i had some problems like this...except mine would completely stall out and die..my problem was vacuum leaks and a cracked intake. Check all those.

I'm not sure about the surge, but the second behavior you listed is completely normal. The typical standstill idle RPM for these cars is around 600-800 RPM.
