Its not bad at all really

Oh, here is a really nice 2v spring compressor i have been eyeballing for a while. A bit pricey though.

https://www.euroexportinc.com/ford-modular-4-6l-5-4l-2v-valve-spring-compressor/

They have normal springhmmmxompressors like the one floatijg around in my tool box.
That looks really nice but I'm hoping I wont reed it that often. Hopefully i can just rent one. And Cali suuucks RPM wont ship me my cams because they arent CARB approved.. So now I gotta wait like a week to get refunded then find a site that will ship them, which I think I have. So much for starting this weekend <img src="http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Frown" class="inlineimg" />
Call Jordan at modular head shop, or Jim Cushman @CMS. They both make great cam profiles. I have run both. Shop bith sites and check out their options and see what they recommend. MhS is a bit more conservative normally.

Been awhile, but the engine is out now. Holy **** was that a pain in the dick, but I think itll be alot easier if I have to do it again. The engine refused to separate from the transmission, and I ended up using a strange tool known as a Jeep Cherokee and a ratchet strap to pull it off of the transmission. And the the hoist wouldn't go high enough and this and that and now its 11pm and I got work tomorrow. Also the God damn hoist tipped over, so let's just say I need new valve covers and an oil pan now. Luckily it fell on a thick rubber mat I was using to lie down on. Anyways, if anyone has some shiney valve covers and/or an oil pan they're willing to part ways with, lemme know. Now the fun part begins!

Pics!

This engine looks much cleaner than my last. Way less carbon build up, ports are much smoother. And holy **** are valve covers expensive. $250 for some aluminium trick flows. But they're pretty and I want them... And yes, I'm doing this on the side of the road..

That sounds like rough job, i am glad it finally came apart, despite the booboos. I have always wanted to do something fancy with my valve covers, but i feel like i would ruin them during projects. Pics for more progress, i am currently living vicariously through others projects.

In that case, more pics! So maybe this whole blown head gasket thing was a blessing in disguise. I found a couple of the chain guides broken. Thankfully I bought all new guides, chains, and tensioners. Also, the head bolts have SPS stamped on them. Is that aftermarket? Maybe the heads have been off before. I can see the water pump is aftermarket, and it has a shitty aftermarket intake on it.

Got the heads off, and man it's much better looking than my last. No rust, except a tiny bit in cylinder 4, which I'm guessing is the one that had coolant leaking into it. Everything looks good so far. My only questions so far is how generous should I be with the assembly lube on the cams? I plan to just cake as much on them as I can. Also, this vacuum line (pic related) that I forget what goes to, how do I even replace this haha. Its wrapped up with the wiring harness if I recall correctly, and I dont wanna peel the whole thing apart. I dont think I can splice it back together, it's kinda brittle and plastic. I wanna say it was for the egr? Anyways, some more pics!

Go nuts with the assembly lube. Just keep in mind that when you drain the oil next a lot of assembly lube can show a sheen in the oil and scare the crap out of you.

You can probably splice it together. If you have to you can always use hoses instead. I would get the engine back together and then look at the vacuum diagram for it, see what's missing.

More pics! Looks like I lost some compression today after cleaning Haha. Does the head look clean enough to you guys? Interesting that both rear cylinders were much cleaner than the rest before I started. Also its supposed to rain for a few days so progress is probably going to slow, even though it's already pretty slow haha. First pic is cleaned, second is not

I was using some degreaser and plastic scrapers. And carefully with a razor blade. Its completely smooth to the touch. Took forever

The assembly lube? You'll be fine. It took me quite awhile to get mine fired and running after I built it.
